hi guys

what are the exact details of hi def resolutions ie 1024 x 768 ie what is 1080i or 720 ect??? please help

Thanks in advance

1920by1080 = FULL HD. (can be i or p)
1280by720p = 720p (HD)

i - interlaced, each frame is shown as two fields one after the other, with alternate horizontal lines shown in
each field only.
p - progressive, each frame is shown as a full field, ie all lines (pixels) are present per field/frame.

i have a 2232gw samsung 22"lcd what would that be then? im running it as 1680 x 1050??? i hav no idea...

1080p, 1080i or 720p. Is more related to LCD TV resolutions.

wich is as PeterCH said:

Most plasma bigscreens can only do 1024x768 max. They support 720p (but is a downscaled 720p. Not true 720p) Basically scaled to 1024x720 or maybe stretched to 1024x768

This whole hi-def thing can get so confusing. Howeverm PeterCH did a great job of explaining it.

I almost got myself a 22" monitor, but when I found out about FullHD and so on, I decided to make the jump and do 24" instead. I was not sorry, my 24" is a beast of a monitor that will display FullHD and then some :D

so what must i set my output of the mvix at 1080, 720 what??

i hav a 22inch lcd

A 22 inch doesn't have all the pixels to show FULL HD natively.
You need at least a 24 inch screen which are native 1920by1200
which is even more than you need for FULL HD (1920by1080).

You can still however show 720P natively, there will just be black
bars around the image to account for the extra pixels your
monitor has.

You can also show full HD on your 1680x1050 monitor, but it
won't be native. The image will be scaled down to 1680by1050.

Whatever you do keep your monitor in its native setting. The
player software will do the scaling for you.

Why do u want native?
Because a HD monitor should have at least one pixel for each pixel of
1920by1080. You want a sharp image. Scaling will make the image softer
as some monitor pixels show what was meant to be shown in 1-2 seperate
pixels ie information will be lost.
Scaling also causes other issues and causes picture quality degradation
because of the process itself.
