No dude, check the photo - it's damn ugly. I've just had some building done, including a chimney, and it should be 500mm-1m above the top of the roofline.

Yeah, it's also probably illegal. So it's not about jealousy as you pointed out. If it were illegal but within building regs, nothing probably would have happened and it might have gone unnoticed - but because it's ugly and illegal, the article suggests the neighbours complained about the eyesore and it was later discovered it was an antenna.

If you are building something that big (tall) you may need the municipality to approve it's construction. That also involves getting neighbors to accept it too (depending on the position and size). If he did get this, then he has lied about what he built and technically isn't approved.

There is probably a ton of paperwork and safety regulations involved with pulling up a cellphone tower - I don't know but I'd expect something of the sort. The fact he's hiding it shows somethings not right with the whole thing.

Remember, you can't just go around building anything on your property, you need government and neighbor approval first.

Yup - government approval if it's within regulation, neighbour if it's out ... just been through the process of having building lines relaxed to get some stuff done - quite a schlepp - need to get signed letters from neighbours, submit special plans, pay extra fees (of course!).

Edit: and as we know from the iBurst debacle, it takes months or years to get approval for an antenna.

And this is the Eastern Cape as well!

The win here is that they had to install a proper line (fibre?) to the tower. They might be forced to take down the transmitter, but why bother pulling out the underground feed?
