hi All;

Im just wanting to enquire does my car have a fuel pump cutoff switch?

Ive googled the internet flat; but there isnt a mention of it anywhere;

I drive a kia picanto facelift, (old shape) and I took it to the mechanics who say I have an electrical problem;

but no fuse popped or relay gone;

so Im turning to MYBB; if anybody has any idea if this car got a cutoff switch?
I dont think so, but I could be very wrong here;

Not a physical switch as such (unless fitted after-market) but the function can be incorporated in anti-theft systems.

I reckon your next stop is an auto-electrican.

I came into this thread to tell the OP that he doesn't need a hidden cutoff switch because he doesn't have a working fuel pump. But having read his post I can't. I'm disappointed. Especially because I now feel the need to make a useful contribution to the thread.

You could try feeding 12V directly to the fuel pump, depending on how it's wired, and how much it relies on various OBCs do to it's work. Otherwise as Mick suggested, an auto-electrician might be the next stop. Feel free to start a thread asking for recommendations in your area...

yeah, well I gonna ask for that soon, but Im gonna check a auto electrician first;

nobody can tell me conclusivly if I have or dont have such a switch, my brother is running all over town trying to assist me with this story;

also isnt it dangerous feeding 12v direclty ? I mean it is the fuel pump and a lot can go wrong there.......

Potentially, if you don't know what you're doing.

Im sure, but if theres nothing that can be done; what else can I do?

nobody here can tell me there is or isnt a cutoff switch on the car?

where could I potentially check? where is such a device usually hidden? in the passenger footwell?

but dosnt it need to be marked clearly?

who on the forums would know?

Most modern cars work from the ECU so typically if the ECU picks up that its parameters have been met it switches on the fuel pump relay the the crank angle sensor is usually primary to these conditions.

Do you have a multimeter? just check if you are getting voltage on the relay etc.

But after reading your threads I think its better to just pay someone to have a look and have it done with.

Edit: alarms/immobilizers can also be wired into the circuit so lookout for those.

If the location of a "hidden switch" was widely known it wouldn't be hidden would it?

If you don't know or can't contact the previous owner(s) you're stymied - best get the car to an auto-electrician.

Oh people, all my Fords have a fuel cutoff button for if the car think its in an accident (because is kills the fuel feed in an accident) and you want to be able to start it again

is yours marked? IE does your one show a petrol pump with a line through it?
never saw anything like that anywhere else,

I always call this switch the money switch, as if you dont know you spend money trying to find it;
or take it to the dealer and you will spend money trying to fix it......

arnt they supposed to be marked always?

That's not a "hidden switch" and as such would be documented in the owners handbook.

unfortunatly for me; I dont have my owners handbook on me from my car;
got it at auction so no book to speak of;

small question, my brother says he could try and wire the pump to the cigarette lighter just in the meanwhile so I can drive;
I dont like the idea though; sounds like it is asking for trouble;

anybody tried such a thing before, its really dodgy and could start a big fire;

any recommendations on reliable auto electricians in east rand area of JHB?
dealt with 3 today, each one with 15 different stories that Im unhappy about;

... I don't like the idea either! - get the problem diagnosed & repaired by someone who knows what they're doing.

My money is on immobiliser failure, assuming:
Relay tested OK
No power to relay therefore no power to fuel pump.

Marked on my Figo, exactly the same as in this pic of a Figo, was not marked on my Ikon but the red button was visible, in exact same location.

Anyway, what about my other post? That's supposedly for a Picanto, obviously the left hand drive type, but now check under the dash on the steering wheel side, might involve going on your knees... pray if you want :p

hi i did the same thing had a intermittant fault on my opel i added a direct connection into the cigarette lighter only plugged it in when the pump would not switch on.

Many years ago we owned an Open Monza.

We could never afford the Opel Monza 1991 car of the year but our model had a switch hidden under the carpet in front of the driver's seat.

I'm not sure what it was for.
