HiFi Corp is a leading distributor in audio and visual products in South Africa. HiFi Corp was previously known as Hi-Fi Corporation.

The company was founded in 1993 on the premise of bringing the lowest possible prices to consumers. HiFi Corp now boasts with the title of biggest audio and visual warehouse in Africa and the Southern Hemisphere. HiFi Corp offers a wide product range at competitive prices.

Their logo says "switched on" but something seems amiss because their huge premises at Canal walk (a whole building) is vacant . I went looking to buy a cooking stove, well to price one there, anyway, but there was a sign saying SorryZ We are closing, please visit our nearest branch so that would be the huge premises next to Virgin Active in NI city. Well That massive ware house is gone gones so I end up in house and home and asks where is a Hi Fi Corp? and they pointy me a sort of hole in the wall in the main mall that used to have had maybe a carpet shop or something, and I am scratching my head. It looks like the old High Fi Corp went on a crash diet and model themselves on a bare bones Incredible Ripoff, but not only that They have all manner of house hold goods but only one or two models of each item a generic or a sunbeam (I think) The cooker prices were exactly the same as Game and nothing stood out cheap any more. They've not even got a grey market air. Worse of all there's no Staff to help and I hate hunting people down to ask a question. Anyway I think they should rebrand as switched off.
Just my 2 c and noes I didn't buy the cooker there. Looking for a freestanding cooker is like looking for something in Soviet Russia before the Berlin wall fell. You can have any free standing cooker you like as long as its a defy :crying:

tl;dr Hi fi corp gone on a diet. don't even bother looking.

Went to the PE branch of H-Fi Corp in March looking for an electric tin-opener.

In the past they used to have a good selection of small appliances but all they could offer me was a solitary demo Kenwood unit in a stainless steel finish when I was looking for something in white. Finished up getting what I needed at P'n'P Hyper instead.

Yes that's true they had a good variety once upon a time. Now they stock Kenwood (well I saw a kenwood slow cooker R100 cheaper than a sunbeam and generic. The slow cookers looked the same despite names and I pulled the cooker from the metal sleeve and lo and behold they made in the same factory. so they identical and Kenwood one was R100 cheaper than a sunbeam (I think it was) and they both the same thing with different names. *Scratches head.* They have one or two of each appliance on the three or four shelfs that look very very lonely I was really tempted to find a third or forth just to keep them company.

Hi there, please could you mail us your contact details so we may assist - customercare@jdg.co.za
Thank you
Regards,
HiFi Corp

Wow that's a spineless, empty, canned response if I've ever seen one. The OP isn't asking for your assistance from what I gathered, he's making a comment regarding your rebranding/re-storing/rewhatevering.

How about a friendly message to explain the changes the OP brought up or maybe a comment on people's apprehension towards buying stuff at your store for whatever reason - grey or otherwise.

Waste of time otherwise, really... consider this free brand management/damage control advice. Although I'll have to charge for any follow-up consultations :)

Last year I wanted to buy an amplifier and they had none supporting HDMI 1.3. Everything was 1.2 and lower. I get the feeling they sell old stuff at current prices.

Jeez that was painful to read, but I agree Game's agressive pricing is slowly pushing them out.

Personally I don't care how cheap my local Game is as I will still not support them. Discount prices = Discount service.

Actually I support my local HiFi and have been very happy with them the last 2 years. Coming from a retail background I know your store is only as good as your management.

Well considering their Parent is WalMart and Walmart go to insane customer service lengths the prices are no where near as cheap as they COULD BE. The price fixing cartels are alive and well in our beloved Country

And would you believe the same cooker I am looking at is the same price at all of these places (tafelberg- Greenpoint and AA Kloof)
It's a price fix I tell you.

Price range R0-2500 ONLY Compact Defy Freestandings (snow whites 7 dwarves would buy these)

Price range R4000- 4600 Defy Freestanding Normal size stove (will fit standard baking trays) NO thermofan.( useless for prof baking)

Price range R6000- 8000 Defy Freestanding with thermofan and at the R8000 mark there is a ceran cooking stove no plates.

Price R8000 and up to 100,00+(cast iron french imports) Lots of upmarket brands with gas tops and stainless steel ovens freestanding. The basic good stuff starts at 8k.

Prices of appliances are all rigged by cartels
