High CPU usage on Ubuntu 18.04

It seems gnome is using up all the CPU available will constantly spike to 99% other times hover between 19% - 78% even with no apps open.

Some extensions can cause this. Install Gnome Tweak Tool and try turning off one entension at a time to check if any are causing the high cpu usage.

Interesting that VSCode is now the default IDE (probably one of the first times - if not the first time that MS has achieved this).

I also like the minimal install option so I can avoid bloatware.

They don't ship betas, maybe you are thinking of their testing & unstable repos which you get in other distros too.

I had the same problem, eventually uninstalled Ubuntu...
