High-end PC - est. price anyone?

Anyone care to hazard a guess at what i'd end up paying for a system with similar specs to the one below? any input welcome :)

Ye save money on the flashy case and over priced graphics card an go i7 with a 4870
 
At least go quad core. I don't really see the point of paying that much for a system then sticking with dual core, even if it is high end.

AT LEAST get a Quad core... with that kind of money you should be looking at the PhenomII chips or the i7.

thanks for the input.. he hasnt really got a budget, the bugger, but obviously nothing way over the top. the reason he wants the e8600 is cause its the fastest duelcore and the quadcores havent got any apps that us there full potential. only a few games these days are actually designed to us the duel cores. thats what i've been told anyway.. but will check out the i7 and PhenomII.
 
Yeah but you won't have a performance loss on a quad core.
And it's a better long term investment. You wouldn't want your cpu to bottleneck your system...
 
Go for i7 dude, looks like he wants a good fast pc and the i7 will smash that dual core something crazy.

People keep saying apps and what not do use quadcore but i know when my e8400 in my mobo windows boots in slower and seems slow than when my q9550 is in the system.
 
I added a bunch of thumb sucked amounts that are roughly what you might pay, and the total is about 24k.
In this system I would definitely say go for i7.
 
E8xxx are still great processors. But newer games are running better on quads (Crysis, GTA IV) as you mentioned, more and more games and apps will go that way. Quad core is a much better investment, future proof, etc.
 
Also ... He does not need 8GB, if he goes for i7, rather just get 3 x 2gb and stick to 6gb. If he goes for 12gb, it will be overkill.
 
A Phenom II 940 would be a much better buy. Together with a 4870*2 would be wonderful.

Just change the psu to a corsair TX750Watt.

Add a 790GX mobo with SB750 chipset and you're a for away.

Ummm why would it be better? money is of no object here and you recommend amd over intel?

Grrrrr fanboi's can like to annoying, Now if it was a money thing i would say rather buy the amd 920 because i can be objective but you amd okes only know how to say buy amd. Objective is not in your vocab. It is like you are brain-washed by amd and cannot think for yourselves other than to say buy amd.

:confused: Or not, I doubt it would be a better buy for someone with no budget to go AMD.
 
Well the amds r priced right when he mentions not too over the top, also remember the 790gx chipsets r rock solid and dirt cheap, r1200 for a good overclocking crossfire board, intel cant beat that price

With AMD you get what you paind for, i.e. good price = bad performance

Intel on the other hand = A little extra money = Awesome performance
