Hey Everyone,

I am experiencing high latency on my line (300ms+) to the saix gaming servers and I cannot figure out why.

I have closed all my connections to make sure something isn't stealing bandwidth (used netstat to check all internet connections were close).

But still the problem persists. I am in the Durbanville/Bellville area.

Equipment:
Gigabit Lan
Netgear DG834N

What further steps can be taken?

Thanks in advance.

First question : who's your ISP? do they use SAIX or IS as their backbone?

Have you run a trace route? If so, where's the delay?

If you haven't run a trace route do this:

In Windoze go to a command prompt and type: tracert
Followed by a space and the site or ip address of your choice.

Trace Route is like a ping but tracks each step along the way.
You can then see where the delay is taking place.

There's also other things you can do like run a continuous trace route to monitor the connection over a period of time. You may then notice that its worse during certain hours.
Like during times of server backups etc. Talking it a step further there are nice little program out there that can take all this information and put it all in an easy to read format like a spreadsheet for example.

Be sure to tell us how you made out.. and which ISP your using.

If you are using a shapped account it shouldnt matter cause its over the weekend. Maybe a IS connection? But It still shouldnt give a high latency like that

Its a SAIX account, and the tracert delay happens on the first external hop (modem -> gateway)

please do a ping -t for ip 41.242.128.1 . after about 10 pings - cut and paste results

also - do a tracert www.google.com - paste results (you can edit out your ip for safety).
