Just wanted people to know that fibre may not be the option if they are gamers using international servers. In fact I would say think very hard before you let go of your working ADSL.
I live in Noordhoek, Cape Town and while the fibre line latency is great during the day (when I am at work), the high latency after 20:30 makes it impossible to play games like LOL (league of legends). I have tried to get someone to assist (twitter, phone calls and even hello peter) but so far I just get the standard response to say people are looking into it. The strange thing is that some evenings, I get a decent latency of around 200 and then day will go by with a high latency of over 650. As a clan gamer it is causing havoc with scheduled games. Where we have had to forfeit several matches due to impossible latency.
I have the 20mbps @ 50gigs data package and can only say that I am bitterly disappointed. I cancelled my working ADSL line with Axxess to upgrade to fibre only to find that I cannot continue gaming as I did in the past.
I have been tracking the latency using ping plotter which shows that the issue is connected to:
IP 196.25.39.45 wblv-ip-hsll-1-wan.telkom-ipnet.co.za which has an average ping of 398 over 10 minutes and
IP 196.43.9.50 lon-ip-dir-telecity-pos-1-1-0.telkom-ipnet.co.za which has an average ping of 661 over 10 minutes
