Guys

I have this small problem. My last software update was the 802.1n patch from the apple update site.
I installed Istumbler and about 3 days after that now today my macbook pro is using almost all of my memory. I ran the Onyx cleanup program but it did not make any difference. My fans is spinning at around 2500 rpm.

Memory stats Istat pro
Active - 927MB
Wired - 129MB
Inactive - 466MB
Free - 17 MB

Processor is on idle 45% it was usually 82%

Any sugestions what to look out for. I have the Intel CoreDuo with 1.5GB memory. I have most of the apps on that I read about in this forum.

Thanks

Gun

Run Activity Monitor under Utilities and you should be able to identify which process is hogging your memory.
Looks like you have quite a lot of stuff open OR one of your apps has a memory leak.

I had a look and its my airport running at 884MB. So I think its something to do with the new airport apple patch I installed. Is there a way of removing it.

Sounds like it may be the airport utility...? Have you tried killing the process or even just a reboot? Does turning the airport off and then on again have any impact?

Ok this is what happened last night. I killed that process and it all dropped down to where its normal. I did a reboot just to check that its fixed but every time I get to the log in screen it would dim the screen and a pop up appeare to tell me I must power off the book. I tried about 4 times powering off and back on but no luck.

So I left it off for the night and this morning it working again. But the airport still runs high.

65 airport root
CPU 99.90
Real 1.07 GB
Virtual 2.15 GB

If I kill it again I will have the same problem by not getting into the book.

Oh being a noob at Mac os does not help. I also sent the popup error code to Apple

Thanks

Sounds like there was a problem with the updater install. I've read that some people have been having problems if they did not have the latest airport update installed before they applied the patch.

Have you tried to re-install the updater?

If ur a noob, then don't bother going into the system directories to delete and re-install, rather take ur mac down to the local iStore and have them sort it out for you. Should be free. And you can get them to explain what they are doing so you get to learn something.

I see that there are 2 new updates out so I am busy installing them. I am busy going through the release notes to see what the security patch fixes.

I have also found the process that is hogging th memory. It the configd parent process.

I have backed up all my data so I am going to try and fix it myself as I dont have time in the week to take my mac in.

Thanks for the help so far.

@gunslinger - so you paid the $1.99 for the update? Has it made a noticeable difference? I've only got the one N compatible device so there isnt much point for me yet.

I dont know much about mac but if there is a program i ill suggest freeram xp pro.this is a windows version but google to see if you can get a apple one o get security task manager.

So just for the record... you tracked down the problem to the Airport Extreme Update 2007-001? Which you then removed and the problem went away?

You then re-applied the update and then upgraded to 802.11n using the enabler software and everything is ok now OR you're still running the older version of the airport software?
