There's been a few threads on similar topic http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...ving-Course-who-s-done-one?highlight=training ,
but I just thought I'd share my experience - more on the high performance training, not so much the anti-skid/collision.

I finally got the time to do the advanced high performance driver training. Did the one offered by BMW at Zwartkops, and yes you can do it on the //M range, if you're willing to pay for it or if you buy one of the //M models - or if you know someone ;)

First off, big respect to the trainers - those guys really know their stuff. The one dude took me on a flying lap at the end in on of the //M's and OMG - as we went thru the bends I couldnt believe the G forces exerted on me. I realise now I could never be a racing driver, I just dont have the balls and physical qualities to push a 'track car' to its limits.

I first 'raced' the 335 around the track with the instructor and then an //M - and now finally I "get" the //M cars are all about handling saying. The difference in confidence you have is also amazing especially when the car is set for track mode. The mini JCW was probably the most surprising to me, it really pwns that track, cause Zwartkops is short and very bendy you dont really get to above 4th gear.

All in all a great experience - and the food was great too!

Price?
Linky?
Photos? :D

R3200 - for the 328i, which is basically the old 330i (includes skid pan)
R3500 - for the 135i (includes skid pan)
R13500 - for the M3

Photo's - No, but I have a video of the flying lap, which I took with my phone - will see if I can upload it somewhere - although the vid doesnt do the actual experience any justice

Wow thats awesome! I've always wanted to go for somthing like that, R13500 for the M3....think I'll pass, 135i will be loads of fun I'm sure!

i reckon toyota should offer something like this for the new 86 drivers...

Hmmm think I might go for the 135i. Price isn't too rough and I reckon it's probably a load of fun. Is this an all-day, 1-day thing or is it spread out over two days?

Its a full day thing (08h00-16h30) - starts off with some theory classroom style in the morning until 10h00 - then off to the track for the remainder of the day

the story goes that bmw started offering the course for free to their //M customers, when they realised that many of these customers wreck their vehicles and lives within the first year. So they found it made economic sense to train these customers to understand the limits of these vehicles and in the process ensure they have repeat customers

yay for market economics :)

how much is the JCW day? would really like to feel how different a JCW is (compared to my just-a-cooper-s) and actually take it around a proper track (really not in the mood to do it in my own car)...

Not sure of the cost for the JCW. Follow the link above, phone them and ask - they are very helpful.
The day I was there, some other dude drove the JCW (he bought one so did the course for free) - the JCW set a blistering pace, we couldnt catch it in the M3 !

I've been for the Audi High Performance Driving Course which they take to PE and CT a few times a year, was a ton of fun and a really great experience. Wouldn't mind giving one of the BMW courses a try some day, but not being based in Gauteng makes it a bit tricky.

Does that training affect your monthly insurance amount?
At the course I did they give you a certificate valid for 2 years stating that certain insurers will give you better rates. You will have to speak to your specific insurer, but I don't think many of them will.

I still havent contacted my insurer - but the people that attended the course before said you should be able to negotiate a reduction in your premiums, after you fax them your certificate you recieve on the day.
