I've just gotten a 20meg ADSL line since I moved from a ****ty 4meg, currently on the Vox special of 150GB for R164.

However with this speed I can chow my cap in no time so I've been looking at going back to uncapped but the 20meg uncapped prices are utterly mad! I don't wanna download the internet I just don't want to worry about caps constantly.

Is there anything around for 200-250Gb(HD streaming may bump my usage up a bit) that isn't ridiculous?

This is probably better discussed but having gone from a 4mbit to 20mbit line myself in the past and unable to pay the 20mbits uncapped service I have looked at all the ISP's that have any form of known presence and VOX is the cheapest due to the specials however I use a 200GB afrihost account which has unlimited downloads between midnight and 7am. Unfortunately with high speed uncapped comes high expected downloads and a high price for uncapped as a result.

The whole point comes to how you use the internet, the extra speed only means you can chow through your cap in no time if you actually change your usage pattern, sure youtube usage will go up a bit since it will be at HD all the time but for me I looked at a 6 month history and my downloads hovered around 150GB a month so I got a 200GB account. If you do need to do a massive download schedule it for free hours (Not sure if VOX has these ?)

I have basically left you in the same situation as before, expensive uncapped, but really check your usage patterns and dont worry about it if they are consistant.

I've come to the same conclusion, unless you want to download the internet(which I don't) at these speeds uncapped makes NO sense whatsoever. Vox has uncapped after hours as well so my downloads are scheduled for then anyway, will just monitor my usage and upgrade the cap if needed.

If you're only doing those amounts then a Home/standard uncapped will be fine for you. You won't need a premium or business account for that amount of data.

Hell even MWEB standard will work for you:

Lets not forget the fact of shaping and priority here when mentioning uncapped home and standards.

That R900-R1000 a month for the data, when I'm currently paying R164... Crazy

Your second option of course is to get a 300GB/400GB VOX capped account. They have data rollover so you never waste data.

I'll do top-ups, I've got the special of 150Gb for R164 so don't want to lose that. But I see top-ups are R5/gb which is mad, will have to monitor data usage and see.

Also forgot about that, I've been rid of shaping since going capped and really don't want that shyte back in my life.

Ok. For me that's normal. Thought you meant the prices for premium/business were crazy...

You can add a second 200GB package to your account. You will just need to change usernaes on your router when the 150GBs runs out.

Then your only options are Business uncapped or Capped.

And since you already the home/standard pricing was insane you really only have 1 option.

I have come to the same conclusion, slightly ridiculous though IMO. Can you imagine what uncapped fibre is going to cost? ISP's need to catch a wake up that "most" people want the convenience of not worrying about caps but won't max a fibre line all day just because they can and price accordingly.

MWEB did this and people raped them. That's why they have FUPs now.

Yip. That's what the standard/home accounts are for...
