High usage LTE on month to month contract

I'm moving into a new place in a few weeks, and Telkom is currently unable to install a line (funny that there was a working line at the place 1 month ago, and there is an MSAN 100m down the road...), so I need another solution.

I need around 40GB/month. Are there any LTE offerings available in this range, without a 2 year contract?
 
Hi JayM

Not sure how important speed is but Neotel do LTE packages that are uncapped. You don't get full LTE speed, however, so you only get between 2 and 10 mbps. The 2 mbps is affordable but the higher speeds are business solutions with contracts and extreme cost. I think the 2 mbps can be taken month to month but you must pay the installation fee and buy a router.

I am looking for an ADSL alternative for similar reasons to you so I have recently found out this information so I apologise if it isn't 100% accurate.

No Neotel LTE available without a 2 year contract.

I think I'm going to go for the Telkom 60GB+60GB option @ R1800.00. It's LTE enabled and I have coverage at my new house.
 
Well, the coverage is poor. If I cable tie the router in a specific spot, I can get 1 bar of LTE signal, which equates to a poor experience overall. It will have to do until Telkom decides to install my landline.
 
The MSAN is a couple of hundred metres from my house, so ideally I'd like to get ADSL/VDSL. But I need a reliable connection so I'm willing to spend a couple of grand to make this work nicely until Telkom can sort out the cable.

My current setup is B593 + cable ties. That's it. :D
 
Seems to be better today after the Telkom tech visit, although he didn't do anything except escalate the fault. Getting 12-18 down and 1 up, which is perfectly adequate for me. Pings are rock solid at 20ms.
 
Yes but those speeds clearly indicate instability. The telltale sign is the upload speed. You need antennas. I'm guessing your RSRP is > -100dBm.

Doesn't help me to have an antenna any more disappointed at Telkom Mobile. They erected a new base station/tower probably a month ago and the max speed I am receiving is

RichardG, IIRC you already have an XPOL-06? It would seem in your case the tower has a backhaul issue or they haven't tuned the LTE installation yet. Did you try MTN LTE? It will at least confirm this for you (as it did for me since I got the same speeds from both providers).

Edit: Oos, XPOL-06 won't work with MTN LTE. 2300-2400MHz support only.

Azimuth, that is correct have an XPOL-06 installed.. I think the tower in question doesn't have enough capacity/backhaul the LTE is tuned or else wouldn't be to connect to 4G/LTE network at all. Don't have the MTN sim card with me it is with a relative and MTN LTE is horrendous due to elevation level :( I am on a Hill, no line-of-sight to base station.
 
Hmm, I guess landscape and NLOS are your issues. You're probably getting your main signal from reflection. I'm interested to know why Telkom Mobile installed an XPOL-06 and not LPDA-0092.
 
Very High usage LTE on month to month contract

Please allow me to slightly hijack this thread; is anyone aware of any options currently available for very high usage LTE (preferably month to month or prepaid)? I’m looking at around 100GB per month.

I can’t get a Telkom line to my place and I’m struggling a bit with fixed wifi, so I’m looking into other options. If push comes to shove I’ll even sign a 12 month contract. I know of the Telkom 60+60 deal, but can’t seem to find anything else around the 100GB mark. Any ideas?
 
Your only option will be Telkom 60+60. Just top up as you go.

I'm busy checking this out; unfortunately R1800 per month (although the cheapest mobile) is still a tad pricey. I just would have loved some more options. :)
