High usage, no throttling, under R1200?

That's not true. Afrihost's representatives on here have several times admitted that they do throttle their business 'uncapped' accounts too.

Please provide a link to this admission. I call BS until I see an official statement.
My 4meg business uncapped is never shaped.

Hi guys

I haven't had uncapped since June (exchange issues), but there should be ports available next month so it's time to start looking at packages. Basically I'm looking at 4-8MB to share between two heavy downloaders (my brother just moved in with me).

I was with Afrihost uncapped for a while but the excessive throttling put me off (I don't know how their rollover period works but I was still 80% throttled after 2 months using less than 50gb on a 10mb package). I switched to them from Mweb premium (4mb) after getting my final warning.

What I'm looking for is anything that can do close to 400GB/month without major throttling and little to no impact on gaming. How do Mweb business ,Afrihost business and Openweb Gold stack up against each other in terms of throttling/shaping near or past the 300GB mark per month? Or should I be looking at something like Afrihost's high data capped options (400-600gb)?

If you only wanna do 400GBs take MWEB Premium.

I think when the word "throttling" is mentioned, it's "high contention" that is meant.

If the IPC is under load, business, capped or anything will have slower throughput (throttling - actually high contention) in order to keep latency in check. Sometimes, even that is not enough, then we see packet loss and high latency.

Nope.

Certain ISPs throttle after a certain amount of usage regardless of contention. They are two very separate things. They are really as different as chalk and cheese.

I was talking about AH "unshaped" business and capped.

Afrihost contention ratio's on their normal uncapped is about 50:1 and on their Business uncapped is 35:1

Streaming a priority on crystalweb so downloads only after midnight .
Your feedback is not totally accurate.
Streaming is prioritised, but you can definitely download.

There are accounts with varying degrees of unshaped bandwidth, starting from 100GB.

Once the unshaped bandwidth have been depleted, big downloads and only big downloads are shaped during the day and evening. From midnight the shaping is released and you should get line speed or close to it up to 07:00.

You do get totally unshaped accounts at a higher price.

These are quality accounts for sensible users.

In my opinion it is not aimed for people that want to pay R300.00 and download a terabyte.

As far as I am aware the unshaped uncapped Crystal Web accounts are only available to existing customers and not potential clients...at least that's what I was told by their live chat personnel and on their feedback thread...so AH would be your best bet, I am on the 10mbps business uncapped for over a year, I have not been throttled or shaped but streaming leaves a lot to be desired, my monthly average usage is around 600GB...

If you schedule half of your downloads for midnight, then Web Africa Business would work for you.

I'm gonna throw the word 'managed' into the mix.
These ISP's will blind you with jargon until you realise they have every means to prevent you getting data.

Its being shaped and throttled right now. And Afrihost is completely indifferent and incompetent. Look elsewhere.

It's not being shaped and throttled. They don't have enough capacity to cater for the current demand, so the service is just too heavily contended.

In the past few months-when there were no capacity issues-all protocols would run at full speed 24/7.

Just phoned Axxess, as my speeds today is horrible. Low and behold, I'm informed that their AUP changed end August and that my "slow" speeds is as a result...WTF! When I signed up with them there was nothing mentioned about this for business account? Why can ISP's change the rules as they wish? Those planning on moving to Axxess...be warned!!!

I JUST CANCELLED!
