I hear you MaD, but there has been politicians and high profile people affected by crime, off the top of my head i can remember the IFP members that were gunned down a few weeks ago and the Judges daughter/grandaughter that was killed in their house in Lenasia South.
Thats why i feel like the government doesn't actually care and we just fighting a losing battle, we probably wasting our time even talking about it!

Ahh, those people/airlines distributing pamphlets are terrorists trying to ruin the South African tourism industry! They must be dragged out into the street and shot!

How to you implement a "broken window" approach to crime when there are no alternatives to point people towards?

In Guguletu on a sunday evening, I can stand on the pavement drinking a beer, breaking the law - and the police will just drive past. It's because there are about 3 000 other people doing exactly the same thing. There aren't the facilities available for everyone to drink indoors in a social environment.

It is different in built up areas with alternatives, I think this is what New York had and Guliani had in their favor.

@ Waron. My point was get the right people into the job that knows how to deal with this kind of nonsense. We have a real problem in this country and it needs to be sorted out urgently. @Angelo, New York was one of the most crime ridden cities in the world, and today it is one of the safest. We can learn from them.

That will never happen - prisoners are allowed to vote, and there are TONS of prisoners in the country.. if they get the death penalty a lot of votes will be going with them.. The Party doesn't want that.

Cant believe these people actually stop and make calls or answer any calls.

It was a foreigner. Can't imagine a local doing that. Guess foreigners DO need to be better informed of how things are here.

The police is pathetic I will not have any respect for them. I've reported an accident last week Monday at the Douglasdale police station. After standing for a half hour waiting for the only constable that is busy writing whatever his writing as slow as possible and has no sense of any service whatsoever I started to shout at them. One popped out from the back with greasy hands full of chicken fat, to hand me a form to fill in. After the form was filled in I had to shout again, by this time all of them was in the back having the chicken. Well surprise, surprise nobody even made an attempt to leave the chicken to help the tax payers (at this stage filled the office) that pays their salary. I phoned the toll free number that is displayed on their wall for any complaints on service , but I could have guessed, no answer. After another 15 minutes of complaining one came out with an attitude as if I was the one that has been wrong the whole time. I decided there and then that I can not have respect for a bunch of baboons that calls themselves a police force.
