Which Parktown? Which School?2 childreb injured , one shot in chest
Two young children have been taken to hospital after being wounded in what appears to have been an attempted hijacking outside a Johannesburg primary school.
The Grade One and Grade Three pupils were outside the Roseneath Primary School in Parktown when shots were fired.
It is understood a security company employee, who had drawn money from a bank, was held up by four armed men at a traffic light outside the school.
One of the robbers pointed a gun at the man and pulled the trigger twice, but the weapon did not fire.
Police officers who happened to be passing the scene saw what was happening opened fire on the robbers and a shootout ensued.
At the same time, children who were leaving school were waiting on the pavement, just metres away.
It is thought one of the robbers was wounded and officers have started hunting for the robbers.
PRINCIPAL'S HORROR
Meanwhile, deputy Principal Mrs. Molese saw two men with guns.
“I heard some gun shots in the road. When I looked through the window I saw a black guy with a gun shooting back [at] a white guy,” she said.
She then ran out to the road and found the injured pupils.
“One was shot in the chest and it looks like the bullet went through. The other one was shot in both hands. They were both bleeding,” she said.
The rest of the children at the school have been sent home.
