Brand new Hilux double cab 3L and I am trying to make sense of the automatic gear box.

It has two drive modes, D and D3, now the question is what is the difference. No idea yet how to engage 4x4 mode but thats not a concern at the moment.

OK - you had me going for a while there - you actually have D which is normal Drive (4 speed box) and 3 which is for third gear.

The salesman should have shown you how to engage 4x4 - but if you want to work it out yourself you have an incredibly thick instruction manual which explains it...:)

You bought a brand new 4x4 and are asking the forums how to drive it? Geee and people wonder why there are sooo many accidents in South Africa. And you are asking this question in a computer forum? :D WTF At least try the 4x4 forum. Still dumb though.

Look on pages 223 - 225 of your 844-page :wtf: manual.
I've just bought the manual gearbox 2012 model, so can't advise on the auto-box selection.

Firstly the 4x4 is not mine, its my wifes uncle who is an old timer so I am trying to help the old bugger out. And secondly this is not only a computer forum. But thanks for your worthless post.

Cheers. I have told him, hopefully he figures it out himself.
