Hindu marriages

There you are. As a marriage officer I expected advise from you sooner lol.

We've been trying to get hold of him for a while but he also owns a few businesses and has been to Makkah recently so hes kind of hard to get hold of.
We were just planning on getting married in court / at home affairs again (the way Muslims used to in the old days). I don't have a problem with that and the wife is all for it as she then expects to get dressed up and a honeymoon again lol

That was going to be my next solution. If you feel you have exhausted the option of trying to get hold of that guy, then you might just find another marriage officer and do it over again, it just takes a few minutes. The Supervising Marriage Officer at Home Affairs can help you with that, he can even do it for you. Make your appointment with him. They don't do it in the courts anymore.

BUT, if you do that, then you must let the first guy know that you have done this so that he doesn't then submit the forms he has as well. You will have all kinds of problems if there are two sets of marriage register forms.

Ah that part hadn't crossed my mind.

They should just have all Priests/Imams/Shamans/Sangomas, etc become Marriage Officers (do the tests, etc). That would ease things up and have people avoid havig to get married twice (religious ceremony and legal part). But in SA thats a bit like asking all drivers to have a licence ...

Did Dominee's and priests had it in the past and then due to fruad or something you have to get a license. Gary should know.

Ja, and these days it really is not all that hard to get. A few months and some memorisation. But it was not a difficult process. The bigger issue though is finding ethical and reliable people to do it as you see with this guy. Home Affairs should probably revoke his appointment if he is not going to take the effort to hand in forms. You really need to report the guy as he is going to keep doing it with other people. And people's legal status as married couples is not something you want to mess with.

Not sure whats been going on in the thread but even in India where the majority of the population is Hindu you still have to officially register the marriage after the ceremony.
