Is it just me or are there only nonsense on the History channel lately? They use to show awesome stuff on that channel. Biographies, Second world war stories, other documentaries of stuff happening like the Wright brothers etc.
Nowadays it’s just pawn wars, garbage collectors etc. I’m sure there’s people enjoying those shows, but the History channel is not what it use to be.

It's turned into a crock of shyte to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Why do real, proper history, when you can have the "pawn stars"? Why give the Egyptians the credit for their marvelous architecture, just claim it was all done by "ancient aliens" and get some nutjob to spew nonsense while being turned into a meme.

Does this mean the average person out there is a shallow beer swigging moron that likes watching things with big explosions, wwf & fake 'reality' tv? It must be because if they were in the minority these channels would not target them.

they did give us vikings though

Yeah about that

Some critics have pointed out historical inaccuracies in the series' depiction of Viking society. Lars Walker, in the magazine The American Spectator, criticized its portrayal of Viking Age government (in the person of Earl Haraldson) as autocratic rather than essentially democratic.[45] Joel Robert Thompson criticized the show's depiction of the Norse peoples' supposed ignorance of the existence of Britain and Ireland, and the use of the death penalty instead of outlawry (skoggangr) as a punishment for heinous crimes.[46]

Monty Dobson, a historian at Central Michigan University, criticised the show's depictions of Viking Age clothing, but went on to state that fictional shows like Vikings could still be a useful teaching tool.[47] The Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten reported that the series incorrectly depicted the temple at Uppsala as a stave church in the mountains, whereas the historical temple was situated on flat land and stave churches were a hallmark of later Christian architecture in Scandinavia.[48] On the other hand, the temple as depicted in the show does have similarities with the reconstructions of the Uppåkra hof. The show also portrays a crucifixion of a prominent character instigated by a Christian bishop near Wessex, apparently as a standard punishment for apostasy - however, Emperor Constantine outlawed crucifixion in the 4th century.[49]

Regarding the historical accuracy of the show, showrunner Michael Hirst comments that "I especially had to take liberties with ‘Vikings’ because no one knows for sure what happened in the Dark Ages" and that "we want people to watch it. A historical account of the Vikings would reach hundreds, occasionally thousands, of people. Here we’ve got to reach millions."[50] When Katheryn Winnick was asked why she licked the seer's hand she answered "It wasn’t originally in the script and we just wanted to come up with something unique and different".

LIke many of the "Historical" programs a great series, primarily fiction, based loosely on historical characters and events , dramatised to capture the TV audience.
People get way to serious and over dramatic about the creative licence inaccuracies in these sort of programs.
Just enjoy them for what they are - entertaining.

It appears that the History and Discovery channels that we get here in SA are "watered-down" versions of the ones they show in the states. I've seen online stuff which have never appeared on DSTV on those channels...

Recently? When did you last watch the Alien/History channel? They whored themselves out years ago.
