Hi guys,

What's your take on the Hitachi L42VP01E 42" ? Audio Vision is selling it on a "special" for 10K. The only info I can find is here

The other option is the Sony KLV-40EX400 which the Audio Vision guys are saying is selling like hot cakes...also at 10K.

dont the ANC have shares in Hitachi?

I got the 32EX400 and it's an awesome tv.

a Hitachi 42" for 10K? ...... get the Sony dude!

Hitachi is a very well respected brand overseas. I had a Hitachi TV, and they were offering a three year guarantee, in fact the 1st if I remember.

However, your big concern here in South Africa ... who is going to fix it when it breaks down?

Just by the by, that sony is selling on catsdigital for 9k

dont support the scum!

ANC has shares in the local power subsidiary. Hitachi Japan is a different company and there is no way in heck ANC would have shares in the Japanese giant. Hitachi is a great brand. I own a Hitachi plasma.

Hitachi is usually superior to Sony.

The comments from people saying Sony is a better choice than Hitachi demonstrate that many on this board are n00bs who have never traveled overseas. Hitachi is a no brainer here. AudioVision will do support obviously.

If Hitachi released a full HD plasma now in 65 or 50 inches, I'd buy it immediately, especially if without a tuner.

I was a bit worried about the support issue, but will query Audio Vision more on that. The TV itself is really great looking and the color is unbelievable! ( or should I say "is believable" :) )

I agree with PeterCH, however, I'd feel safer buying a TV that has a local agency to deal with for repairs/warranty issues, etc.

If I may throw in my 2 cents here - apparently a company called "Balanced Audio" in Midrand is the local Hitchi electronics agent; and Hitachi electronics only has the Hitachi name part in common with the power company. I just bought a L42VP01C and one thing I can tell you is that the viewing angle and picture performance on it is excellent. Coupled with the fact that it has a built-in DTT tuner inside enabling you to pick up the DTT test broadcasts. You can not seriously compare a Sony with this. One of the major issues with LCD has always been that the viewing angle is usually crappy and the balcks are not as rich as on plasma. On the Hitachi, the picture is comparable to plasma, the blacks are really black and with some adjustments it can be set to be just as forgiving on a poor broadcast like DSTV as a plasma would have been.

This is THE BEST LCD TV I've ever seen in my life.

Go to Audio Vison in Tygervalley...its on special there for either R8999 or R7999....not sure...might be the shop model....

Sony does not come close to a Hitachi...

Quick question,

If this is a S-IPS panel as per the link then I'm already seriously interested. can anyone tell me whether this is a 50hz or a 100hz panel?
