Holiday in Australia?

Hi.

Considering a two week holiday in July-ish.

Originally was thinking of Brasil but with the way things have been going here in SA lately I have been thinking a bit more about emigrating so I'm thinking of going to Aus to check it out (and have a good time of course).

Anyone been on holiday there and have any ideas or recommendations? I'm thinking of flying via Singapore and checking that out for a few days as its along the way and it looks like an awesome place.

Right now looking at Brisbane --> Sydney --> Melbourne. I know quite a few peeps who live here.

Moved to Melbourne 1 year ago. Money disappears at a rapid rate here if you using rands.
Airbnb can cost between $100-$250 a night. There are some hostels etc but they are evaporating as they don't bring in much cash.

If you can stay with people you know definitely do that you will save heaps. Beer is usually around the $10 mark, a 500ml coke around $2-$3 dollars in a shop. Coffee from a coffee shop/cafe $3.5-$8. If you go to takeaway places you can get a burger, drink and chips for about $5-$7 on specials, regular price for a regular McDs meals is $12-$15+. Restaurants are expensive with a regular meal usually being between $25-$35. Most things where a person is involved winds up costing a lot because of the min wage.

I've been to AUS twice in the past year (last year March and three weeks ago). I've been to Brisbane, Perth and Sydney.
Sydney was the most expensive place out of the three as well as the busiest.
Perth is a retirement home which comes with its positives and negatives.
Brisbane is so far my favorite.
Accommodation, alcohol and eating out is very expensive. Prices mentioned by ^^vampire^^ are about right. What he doesn't mention is that if you shop at the likes of Coles and Woolies your groceries would work out the same if not slightly cheaper than in RSA. I've used public transport, Uber and Taxis with public transport being the cheapest and quite convenient though it's still very expensive.
All in all I would say that the R50k you have will be pretty tight for two weeks if it includes your flight.

Holy mackerel those prices are steep. I knew it wouldn't be cheap but so far my experience is that all big cities are about the same (Africa / Europe / Middle East / Asia). Those prices seem like double the places I have been to. I'm sure I can live on a budget as I am quite used to doing that when travelling. Limit restaurant meals, limit beers to a couple a day, buy food from supermarkets, walk a lot rather than taxi, etc. I have extra funds available if the ssss hits the fan.

Youth hostels seem to be about R400 per night. I have had good experiences in these in Europe(mostly full of Aussies) so I am sure they will be fine in Australia).

So thats R5.6k for accommodation.
Flights are about 15k (with 2 or 3 day stop in Singapore)
Visa R1.5k?
Spending (100 Aussie dollar per day?) R14k
Internal flights R2k

Total just over R38k.
