Me and the missus, and in-laws, are contemplating going to Namibia for the 2013 December holidays, for about 10 days or so.
Want to find out if anyone knows of any good/reasonable places in the Walvisbay/Hettiesbay/Swakopmund area?

Any advise/experiences would be greatly appreciated.

We will be driving there from Pretoria.
Have already been told by a few people to enter Namibia via the Botswana border.

We flew to Namibia for a company get away and loved Swakopmund. The quad biking was incredible as was the nature tour they took us on. The guides out that side are amazing at showing you the interesting fauna and flora and how they have adapted to survive in the desert. Skakopmund is also just a nice little town to walk around. Its also not that hot next to the sea. The desert in December can be very very hot.

I heard from people, that it is amazing there, so we are keen to try it out for ourselves.
Will be the 1st time in my life, that I will leave the borders of beautiful SA, have travelled through alot of the country, but never had the chance to leave our borders.

Ja, we stayed at Kang overnight in Botswana going both ways.
But it makes more sense to only do that on the way back.
Going there you should probably stay at Gobabis overnight.
You can use your Credit Card to buy fuel in Botswana but not your Petro Card.
You can use your Petro Card in Namibia.
Watch out for Donkeys and Cows on the roads in Botswana and obey the speed limit.
Do NOT drive in Botswana in Heavy Rains or after Dark.
We have friends in Swakopmund, so we just house swapped with them for two weeks.
The weather was great, not too hot.
Sea is not really for swimming there, but you can try it.
Make sure to visit some of the old mining sites around the area.
We went to an old Copper Mine East of Swakopmund.
When you go to Walvis Bay, be sure to visit the seafood restaurants down by the dockside.
There is a butcher in Swakopmund that makes the best damn Springbok Biltong you have ever tasted.
Was abour R160 a kilo when I was there.

Thank you for all that, also been told by an elderly guy today not to drive to Swakopmund from Windhoek at night, apparently the wildlife crossing/lounging the road can be numerous.

We are mainly looking to go fishing/angling.
