Basically I have a ridiculously long holiday (5th of December to mid Feb sometime) and I want to work, because I know I'll get rather bored doing the same old things every day :rolleyes:. And I want to earn more money than Rwenzori by the time I'm 25 ;):p.

So what do you guys/gals suggest? I don't really like the waitering scene because I think I'll be bad at it as I don't have amazing interpersonal skills. I really want to write (I've got a large number of letters published in newspapers) but no-one will offer me a columnist position :cool: :p.

So any good ideas? I'm in Cape Town...(No, I'm not working in a Sea Point brothel)
 
mebbe reconsider the waitering thing ... I have a friend who has the interpersonal skills of a door and he was about R800 a shift in full holiday season last year (CTFM) ... and he's going back end of month to do it again.

Jeez, that is a lot of money :eek:. How long were the shifts?
 
day was about 10am to 4pm (only R500 then though) and night was about 5pm to 12 or 1am ..... not bad, I've worked worse/longer for less before :o
 
If you have some writing skills and have published some letters then maybe go and beg or hassle for some newspaper or a companies publication departement to take you in as an intern (for free or for a nominal sum). It's a great way to build your CV and at the end of the day the money you could have earned wouldn't be worth as much as that letter of reference.
 
i've been thinking about the same thing, but i dont want to waiter, i've done that, didnt work out to well though.... maybe i should go work at a paintball place... or build a go kart.

That should be fun. I once build one using a B&S lawn mower engine, and some square tubing, had some good times with it but the building part was the most fun personally.

So use this as an opportunity to learn, just fake it for the first couple of days. The interpersonal skills will be much more valuable than a internship at some lowly company. (Speaking from experience)

Agreed, use the free time you have and work on your interpersonal skills.
 
bar/waiter job as the others say - hours are dodgy but my sister who is a bar lady makes over r600 and thats on a Wed night...

...otherwise look into telesales or courier or working in a retail clothing store

That just suck....in malls you work 7 days no weekends off and it is christmas so everything will be open till late!!
