Wow this is insane. Are you testing them or is it permanent?

I'm still wondering what is the best way to track if my electric sliding gates are open or not. Would love to be able to get a tone if the gate is open while I'm home (my dogs love running out) or a notification when I'm away.

Actively awaiting my Xiaomi Mi smart gateway and a couple of sensors to test out...
 
What is the purpose of the gateway, as opposed to stuff just bring on the network?

Testing.

Although I'm testing, I have bought the Sonoff bridg3/hub, Quikswitch and EZviz myself. One is on loan, made by Climax

As for actively knowing about the gate - needs to be weather resistant then?

The one I have is also for everything connecting - but, it ships with a SIM card that automatically creates a VPN to the servers when powered. If the Ethernet fails, it switches over. It also has a built in battery back and siren. The case is made in such a way that you can't unplug anything - but everything is reducant and I get tamper messages if you unscrew.

Also a 2km RF (!) range , VoIP, DECT, Z Wave/Zigbee etc etc

I've never tried Smartthings - I can't comment.

But I think the hub I'm using is in another league, purely because of the extra bit's it offers like VoIP, 2km RF range, alarm integration and monitoring, redundant with both battery / SIM etc. I think the Samsung is pretty much just a hub with Z Wave etc

True - but one of the Things are IFTTT which does support

Do more with the services you love in IFTTT. Create new experiences through IFTTT’s applets with hundreds of available services. Then have the best of both worlds by connecting them to the automation power of Stringify. Tie your IFTTT applets to Stringify using the Stringify channel on IFTTT and tie your Stringify Flows to IFTTT using the IFTTT Thing on Stringify.

- Time for sunset/dusk and sunrise/dawn.

So the idea is, when you arrive home, when you turn off the alarm, the system will check if it is dark outside by looking at the time and time for sunset/dusk ect. If it is dark, check if the lights are on, if not turn them on.
Thus, ensure that the human can see when the alarm is turned off.

The other one will be, that if the outside lights were left on, and we past dawn, turn them off.

Very possible and easy when both systems are integrated into Openhab.

A colleague (in a previous life) attached a small light to his alarm system. The light - visible externally if you knew where to look - was turned on when the alarm was triggered, and could only be turned of by manually resetting the alarm.

When returning home he would look at the state of the light. If it was on he would phone the security company & arrange for them to check the property before he entered.
 
Most panels have that functionality. I'd be a bit concerned though if I came home and saw my alarm had been activated in my absence - and then I had to notify the security company :eek:
