Home Automation - Smartkit

Don’t see how much the device would really change in the equation.

Unless I’m missing something it needs all the same additional hardware or connections for much more money.

My question were around trying to find a different way than the norm to do things.
All in one device with thats ready to go. Just a copy pasta of YAML and your done. Also got detection for if the car in the garage but I can't find anything useful to do with that.

Anyone have a large number of Sonoffs (T1, Basic, Pow's) and reached some sort of limit on the number of Sonoffs you can connect to the network?

Having pairing issues - they won't pair at all even though I have a signal and can connect to them on wifi.

Does the tasmota fw help with this issue?
Maybe you have exhausted your IP address range? Typical network at home normally would support at 253 addresses (excluding router ) .. ? Just a guess

Just a randomish type of question, how do Sonoff devices handle being ponied up behind another sonoff device?

I'm contemplating moving the POWR2 from running just the pump, to running the whole pool setup so it can log all of the power used, and then just using basics to manage the switching on and off of the different things like the pump, lights etc....

The POWR2 would be on pretty much permanently and just be used to report power usage.

It would work. The basics wouldnt know about the pow R2 in front of them. Of course , it would require the R2 to be constantly on, as the basics would need live power in their input side just for them to operational.

Maybe state how many you have so there is a reference point.

3x basics
4x T1 2 gang
1x Pow
1x RF bridge with 4 door sensors

I haven't exhausted my IP Address allocation and have enough for more.

Trying to add more T1 light switches but it just doesn't pick it up when pairing.

I can see the itead address in the wifi list and can connect to it but it just won't sync to my device list.

Not a large amount of devices. I think I have around 15 Sonoffs.

I have
- two POWs
- 5 basics
- 2 sv's
- ran a Bridge for a while too

All running Tasmota

Has anyone here experienced issues with the Slaphers? i bought 2 recently for my driveway, one works flawlessly, the other keeps turning itself on every 20 odd minutes, they are not on any sort of timer or schedule? they have great wifi signal

Are there any stickys on what Tasmota etc is, its quite a learning curve.

It's possibly an induction or WiFi/RF interference issue. This happens quite often on the Slamphers, for some reason.

Am I correct in my understanding that the Amazon Echo Dot works well with home automation? I won one recently and have another two coming next month (they were on sale :o ) as well as a bunch of Sonoff switches.

Yeah, I've used one for a while. You can use several combinations, including IFTTT, to voice control your house at minimal cost.

Thanks - I'm wondering if I don't need a couple more Dots and some extra switches. The 3rd Gen one is only $30 at the moment (although I got the 2nd gen for $20).

Have a couple and working fine. Just make sure you have a neutral for your lights.
Why not order from SmartKit?
Thanks - I'll order one then.

And why amazon? It's cheaper, so I can buy more.

Not once shipping and duties are added. Smartkit means you can have it in a day or two, and they can load the Tasmota for cheap.

T1's work well but they are just a tiny bit smaller than your standard SA lightswitch.

R547 from amazon including shipping and duties vs R595 from Smartkit including shipping. Amazon also has stock.

FWIW my dad is carrying them over in Jan, along with three more Echo Dots, and some sonoff switches, so they're def cheaper from Amazon and I don't mind the wait. :)

Thanks for the size info - I measured and it looks good.
