Home Automation - Smartkit

You need to persist the state data. I use simple dB or something in Openhab. It only stores the last value per item. So restarts is a non issue.

Yeah this is a fundamental problem often mentioned with HA that it has no persistence.

I guess could write it to influxdb and use those values but when so it’s a bit over the top for such a small issue.

I mean then I might as well just make it a dumb MQTT switch and create a Boolean button and a status separately.

Doesn’t bother me enough to do that and would probably need a hack to tell HomeKit it’s an alarm then.

What I do however need is a cool verbal trigger for Siri to arm, close gate and garage and is somewhat unique.

“Secure the Compound” doesn’t seem cool enough.

Okay so I'm having fail to secure the compound.

Worked first time when I walked kids to school but when I was leaving the house the IR sensor in the garage is obviously still picking up something as the Alarm triggered and the garage door closed.

Now I made this scene in Homekit as I want to trigger it manually, not trusting the thing to automatically do it when I ride away into the sunshine.

But Homekit stupidly has no delay option...which would have solved the entire problem right there as I would simply go Garage Door + Fate Gate> 5 seconds > Alarm Arm and off we go.

So the question is how on earth could I get a Home Assistant automation into Homekit so that I can use Siri on it?

Seems in Shortcuts I can't do much other than run Scenes, so I've just created two Scenes now with a delay between them.

Lock The House > Wait 10 seconds > Arm The Alarm.

Guess we'll see how that works out tomorrow morning.

I'm guessing you're using this but with scenes? https://www.home-assistant.io/components/homekit/

Hey guys. Please help.

So we're installing the sonoff lights and we've run into this issue. We fried one light and don't want to do another one. Which of these is the line in and line out? The rest of the house (single light switches) is done, only this one left

Correct.

But the scenes live inside Apple’s Home side and only interfaces with the entities in HA through basic means of on/off instructions.

Shortcuts is a workflow automation app (was called Workflow before Apple bought it) but has very little HomeKit integration and can only fire off scenes.

So I’ve done this for now:...

Will test tomorrow morning.

He he.

Maybe doing it in daylight will help next time.

You using the US ones as is?

Yeah we are. And we did do it in daylight, it got dark after it popped. Swapped the identical unit with identical wiring, didn't pop

Chinese build quality.

So you were lucky enough to have neutrals coming down? Or did you install those specially?

Must say, first time I've heard of this - and we've sold several thousand.

Had some guys accidentally earth the switch, though.

Of the 5 we installed today, 1 popped. Sure we didn't make a mistake.

We're returning it to Amazon though, any suggestions on the best way to do it?

Clever okes:

Would this:
https://www.pishop.co.za/store/sens...c-module-distance-measuring-transducer-sensor
be usable to measure the level of water in a tank? (ie mount to top of tank and measure distance to surface?)

Missed your post a few days ago:
I have exactly that measuring the water level in a Jojo tank (garden irrigation tank, filled from borehole). Some comments:
1. I used an Arduino Uno to do the measuring, because of timing issues (the vast majority of my home automation is done with RPi's, which apparently cannot handle this job). The Arduino then displays the distance on a web interface. Currently my Irrigation controller (Opensprinkler) logs the values from that. One day I will integrate the values in a more meaningful way (e.g. email me when the tank is empty).
2. Inside an enclosed, wet space condensation on the probe really messes with the readings. I ended up treating it with RainX and mounted it slightly skew.
3. Readings can also fluctuate quite a lot if the water is not calm (i.e. tank is filling).
4. Getting the code to work on an Arduino was slightly tricky. There are at least 2 different sets of code floating around, and I had difficulty with the one set. Feel free to let me know if you would like a copy of my working code.
5. I tried getting hold of a WiFi enabled Arduino, but the one I got (Red something or other) was flaky. Eventually went for the wired option on an original Uno instead. The system still occasionally disappears off the network (some DHCP problem I think), but returns after a cold reboot - and life is too short to go looking for the cause of that now.

I have a couple of T1's installed for lights and some Sonoff basic's for pool pump and so on, so far I haven't really connected anything properly to a hub. Just been using ewelink on the T1's and the pool pump basic that's been flashed I just put the timer on and left it.

What is a good way to start centralising this whole thing onto a nice app, that I can have a couple of wall mounted tablets maybe and a mobile app.

Main requirement would be for this all to still work on local network when internet is down, and then integration to google home.
We're an android home, so would Smartthings be an option? Or is home assistant with dashboards going to be a better option?

I want to add things like a Sensibo for my aircon, and mostly just more lights - but just not sure what the best way is to get to my end goal.

Also, has smartkit site been hacked?

I got redirected to a "you've got a virus" scam page... seems ok again though after a few minutes.

Thanks for the input - valuable hints and tips there.
I will be using an D1 mini NodeMCU for this - and rather than using a web interface I plan to send the data via MQTT to my HomeAssistant setup and let that handle the UI/alerting etc portion of this.
Will only be buying the ultrasonic sensor next month though - this month has been a motherfucker in terms of cashflow...
