Hi All,

I have been looking around to find a decent component Home Entertainment system. I have around R8000 that I will part with, but I may spend more if I have to.

I really have problems finding anything decent, as lots of stores have small product ranges...

So far I am interested in:
- Sony STR-DH710 AV Receiver

Now I need a set of speakers to compliment this...

I would ideally want to start by either getting a decent set of front floorstanding speakers, and maybe some rears and a center / subwoofer, but obviously I need to look at the pricing.

I would say that my minimum requirements are:
- AV receiver capable of HDMI upscaling, True HD decoding, 3D Passthrough, and a set of front speakers, preferrably with a center and subwoofer...

I have been looking around trying to get a set of Wharfedale speakers, but Hifi Corp seems to be their importers, and they have a very limited range...

Please let me know if you guys have any advice, on the amp and the speakers....

Have a look at the B&W speaker range. Might be more expensive than the Wharfdale, but are very good speakers. Had my B&W 602 S3 for about 8 years now, and are very happy with them.

OK, so after spending some more time in some AV shops (well, Tafelberg Meubels and Audio vision, they sell component systems), I have decided that my budget may need to grow.....

Currently, I am looking at these two:
- Denon AVR 1911
- Mission Speaker set, consisting of Mission MV 8 Floorstanding speakers, a Mission MVC Center, a Misison Sub and Mission Rear speakers...

This is way above what I wanted to spend, now I just need to justify this spend to myself....

A proper audio system will outlast a cheaper system by many years. Quality > quantity.
Rather start small (receiver/amp with stereo setup), and then extend that as money permits.

My playstation has justified the money spend on a home entertainment system:p... when I stick in the Drake DVD and the true HD comes on it is something to behold uncompressed sound is.

What other equipment are you running, R13?

I've read the difference is minimal.
