Just wanting to find out if anybody has made up a battery supply for there notebooks , and if so could you tell us how you did ?

Rip apart any old notebook battery that still holds a charge. Check sizes of the individual cells to make sure the voltages are similar to the one you're repacking. Repack the battery case of the battery you want to revive with the good cells, soldering the right wires in the right places. Check your output voltage is the same as it was before (ie: you put in the right number of cells in and in the right places). Pad with silicone or similar so that everything stays in place. Snap rebuilt / repacked battery back into notebook. Simple. Google for "DIY notebook battery repacking".

edit: I've done it successfully 3 times. My old man has achieved success with about 5 of his old laptops, but he just does it 'cos he likes the satisfaction of DIY. He didn't even use the lappies he fixed - it was the fixing that gave him a kick. Proving he could do it. He even revives old motherboards, swapping out capacitors and transistors and diodes on dead 'boards just for the thrill of seeing them power up and boot again. Oh, and BTW, he's 78 years old.

The guy in the article you mentioned was a real amateur and it was no wonder his battery wasn't as good as a OEM replacement. This sentence says it all.

"Now the standard name for the battery size we were looking for was 1650, and we picked one at random since they had quite a few options to choose ... and I was too lazy to run the math on the correct cell capacity."

Many expensive prepacked batteries can in fact be reworked for cheaper and more successful than achieved by the person in the article.

Agreed. One can repack batteries successfully. I just linked to that article 'cos it was the first one that popped up in the search. But there are plenty of success stories and how-to's if one looks for them.

You could also end up with a better battery than you had before. Get good brand cells with a higher mAh rating than the originals.
