So I'm looking at setting up a gigabit home network which will allow for media streaming, backup and some IP cameras.
Current setup:
Dlink wireless router
2 x laptops connected via wifi
1 x Mac connected via wifi
Samsung 3D smart TV connected via wifi
Samsung 3D BD connected to LAN port on Dlink router and to non smart LG Scarlet TV
3 x smartphones connected via wifi
1 x HTC Flyer tablet connected via wifi
2 x 2TB external HDDs containing video connected to one laptop that has Plex server streaming to smartphones, tablet, other laptop, Mac and Samsung TV via wifi and to BD player via wifi to router and then LAN to BD. Plex clients on all devices.
I have an unmannaged 16 port Dlink gigabit switch and cat6 cable that I will be laying down over the weekend. I had a look at the MyBook Live 3TB network drive but this will have limitations as the space runs out.
What should I be looking at hardware wise? I will be installing network points in all rooms for BD player, Smart TV (as wifi stutters on large files, 3D streaming and with multple devices streaming at the same time), laptops and Mac. Only items on the wifi would be smartphones and tablet, occasionally the laptop will use wifi when I need to move around the house.
Should I get a microserver? What OS on the server. Maybe windows home server? The microserver should run the plex client and be able to do the transoding as well as a torrent client. Or should I get something like this http://www.evetech.co.za/PC-Hardwar...es-tj04-black-aluminum-computer-case-336.aspx and build it up.
I haven't built up a pc from scratch and won't know where to start. Also how would everything be connected up.
EG
One cable from Dlink router to 16 port gigabit switch and everything else that will be wired into the switch. Wireless items will still connect as normal.
