Greetings all!

January is finally over, I can know start thinking of setting up a good home network again.

I need a router and a modem.

Modem
Looking through MyBB I found that the D-link DSL-2500U seems to be the best when it comes to price for a modem. Anyone else have any suggestions? Reason I want a separate modem is so I can just upgrade that if/when I get VDSL. I also want to flash DD-WRT on my router, which doesn't work on combo units.

Router

This is where I got stuck. I need a fairly powerful router as I'll have quite a few devices connecting to it and a good QoS system is really important.
This is where flashing DD-WRT comes in, since it only officially works on a list of devices, I have to be very careful with purchasing.
Does anyone here have a router they flashed with DD-WRT and would like to share info on their hardware and the flashing process? It would really help.

Finally, where would the best place to buy these be? Online or would a store be preferable?

If anyone here has suggestions or input, please do post it here.

Thanks :P

TP Link is fine. Generally cheaper than other makes, but seems reliable. I have had 4

I've got 2 tp-links that I've flashed with dd-wrt, my network has proven so stable I've forgotten my admin password :o

Looking at OpenWRT instead of DD-WRT since most people seem to have better stability with the TPLink

Crap, having a bad day on tapatalk :(

I'll get back to you when I'm on pc

I think you have to set it up... big mission. Shibby's tomato firmware is my fav for ease of use QOS and monitoring.

Well you need to setup QoS on any router. I'll be assigning static IPs for every device on the network and using QoS to manage bandwidth to those IPs.
Looking into Tomato, I can't find many of the supported routers here.

Setting up QOS on RouterOS is NOT like setting it up on Tomato, believe me :)

I guess i'd leave that Q for the experts. I'm over RouterOS. So much potential, so much hassle.
