My desktop PC accesses my HP1020 printer with a USB connection.
I have purchased an HP Pavilion with a wifi connection for my wife and am looking for a way for her to use the printer from another room.
Any advise will be much appreciated.

Its a pretty easy solution.
You just have to setup a Wireless LAN, connected to the PC, Connected to the Printer.

1. Goto Control Panel.
2. Network Connections.
3. Setup a home or small office Network.
4. Just follow the Wizard.

The wizard is quite easy so just pm me if you have problems.

Remember to enable sharing of the printer (Right click the printer under Printers Faxes and click 'Sharing...' from the computer the printer is attached to). If you keep failing to see it, check your firewall settings.

Excuse my ignorance but what do you mean by "a wireless LAN to my PC" and where can I get one and what can I expect to pay?
I have a Telkom wireless modem linked to my PC and the laptop has a wifi connection to the modem.

Okay, a wifi connection is a wireless LAN ;)

Setup your wireless modem correctly. Connect the laptop to the network, make sure it has an internet connection.

Setup your computers to us the same workgroup, call it "home" or just workgroup. All the computers need to use the same one.

Go into the properties of your printer in Control Panel and enable printer sharing.

Go into the laptop control panel>printers and add a new network printer. Install it, and use it to print ;)
