Anyone know where I can get a cheap PBX system for my House, I need to have about nine extensions, for the bed rooms, kitchen, dining room, study room, granny flat etc. I don't know much about PBX systems, so some info will be appreciated...

I am using a Siemens SX353 system in my house. This system connects to an ISDN Line and acts as dect base station for dect handsets to be connected to the base.

It recognise Multi subscriber numbers (MSN) and i a able to assign specific MSN numbers to only ring on specific handsets. (MSN numbers are issued by telkom at a cost of R20 for 4 additional numbers on your ISDN account giving you 5 individual numbers.)

The Siemens SX353 can handle up to 8 handsets as well as an analogue line and computer connected directly to the unit - giving you ten lines plus the computer in total. The system can be programmed through the three build in answering machines that can take messages or just ply an announcement. The nice thing is that this phone also allow to assign specific hours when calls are allowed and when it will go to the answering machines. The system also allow for external forwarding of calls.

For big houses or stretched out houses the system can also handle up to 6 gigaset repeaters to extend the range of the dect units. The dect unit is handed over seamlessly between the repeaters and the base set.

The system also have build in blue tooth which allow a headset to be connected as well as a cell phone that will then integrate seamlessly into the system. The cell number is then regarded as an additional MSN number and can be assinged to any of the handsets. Outgoing calls can alos be routed through the cell number.

I know Siemens recently launched the Gigaset M34USB stick that connects a computer to the system. This allow on some of the Gigaset units the ability to route international calls via VOIP (Skype). I am waiting to find out whether this will work on the SX353.

If you are interested, I do have a small exchange that also connect to the ISDN line and give 4 extensions that can also be programmed with MSN numbers. I bought this system some years ago in Holland and was using this until earlier this year when I decided to change to the dect system. Send me a PM with your telephone number of you need more info on SX353 or the Dutch system.

Selling or giving away - It can only be connected to an ISDN line and it gives you 4 extensions. Telkom previously installed the Gemini system that worked on normal lines and this could be expanded to up to 20 extensions. This was extremely expensive.

Check the website of Siemens Gigaset, perhaps they will have a DECT solution where you can connect many handsets to one base.

Maybe that is what your looking for.

I spend most of my time on development and intergration of solutions, it haven't update the website in a few weeks now.

You could also try out Asterisk, Trixbox is also based on it, but you will need a digium card and they are roughly R1200 the software is free and there are many good guides on the net to help you set it up yourself, has very many functions aswell. Good luck

Hi, I use Asterisk in a corporate enviro... It works weel, but takes a bit of tweaking to get in working all the way...

I have 7 incomming lines and 50+ extenstion in 2 countries... plus roaming extenstions.
