What do you guys (smokers and non smokers) use to make your home smell nice? I am looking for something that produces a constant nicr fresh smell.

We have tried these sticks in perfume but that does not work. Any ideas?

I... uhm... clean it.

Never needed an air-freshener or perfume or whatever.

When I mop the floors (once a week), the detergent has a nice scent to it. Or if I scrub the bathroom (also once a week), the detergent leaves a 'clean' scent to it.

I also always leave my windows open, so my apartment always gets fresh air.

I figure if you're a smoker... stop. If you own pets, clean their bedding/cages and, certainly, clean more regularly. If you have fitted carpets then find one of those snazzy liquid carpet scrubbing machine things that work like a bomb and do that once a month or once every two months.

All an air-freshener or perfume does is mask the stink, it doesn't make it go away >.>

The house is cleaned every second day but that nice fresh smell does not last. I like to walk into a house that always smells nice

Perfume sticks do not help to hide bad smells. The only thing that works is to clean your place, wash the floors, wipe the walls, vacuum the carpets and wash if needed AND open windows and doors when the weather allows! Incense should only be used in a clean house.
If you have dogs and cats, then you have a problem because you will have to clean more often and more thoroughly. Vinegar and/or Bicarb gets rid of animal smells.

I use incense. The smell lingers for a few days if you use it enough. But as rubytox said, use it in a clean house. It'll mask some smells but will smell better without any underlying yucky smells.

We have a few, those ones that plug into the wall... then those bottles with sticks in them... then incense...

We have dogs, so don't want a house that smells like dog.

We use those little candle essential oil disperser thingies. I use one in my room also. I put citronella oil in it. I am going to use that instead of.mozzie.machine. i.am.trying to stay away from chems and poisons as far as i can. I hope.it.works
I really like the smell of it to. Very lemony.

Ahh, I hate to admit this but our place has carpets in the bedrooms and they stink to high heaven. I hate them. Our last rescue dog happens to wet herself every time she gets a fright( loud noises/bangs whatever) and we are hoping she gets better. We want to laminate before next winter so hope she is sufficiently "undamaged" by then. I'm tempted to rip the carpets and live on concrete in summer until we can afford the laminate. Carpets have been cleaned already and it didn't seem to help but I guess it has been winter and the dogs are damp sometimes from being outside. Whoever invented carpets should be shot IMO. What I would give to have a home that permenantly smells like clean linen or fresh flowers :)

It won't help to lift the carpets and live on the concrete. The urine would seep through to the concrete.
I hate carpets. By next winter I too want wood floors but NOT laminated floors.
I feel your pain Carol35.

Oh..why not laminate Ruby? We have no experience with laminate as our previous house was tiled throughout but it seems to wear well and looks good?

Okkie, Citronella oil works against mozzies and flies in an oil burner like you have. Also experiment with mixing a few drops of Lemon Grass in. But I wouldn't burn it before going to bed, as that smell tends to keep humans awake. Try a more soothing oil for the evening, such as Myrrh.
Although of course YMMV, and perhaps Citronella sends you to sleep.

This stuff works brilliantly http://www.kitzair.co.za/

I use an oil/water burner as well. Suggestion her is use good quality oils from Hartman and Keppler or Body Shop. The mr price stuff is crap.

Candles are brilliant. Use Yankee Candles

I don't particularly like laminated floors although you do get some good quality laminated floors. If you opt for laminated floor, I would suggest the best quality you can afford. The cheap ones are ruined with water / urine. My sister had laminated floor installed and it's not looking so great anymore.

This stuff is a gift from the gods...

We started using it when the puppy arrived and it killed odors better than shampooing the carpets. It's available from our local UK emporium. It also removed all traces of cigarette smoke from my old car.
