Hi everyone,

I am looking at buying myself a home theater system(mainly for music dvds), and am looking for the some suggestions on where to shop for systems like Boston,Yamaha,Bose,etc.

Any sites or shops anyone can suggest?

What sort of music will you be listening to and what are you hoping for in your system? Do you just want the loudest system with a lot of bass (there's a lot of cheap systems that'll do that), or do you want something that is able scale across the frequency range at higher volumes (i.e. a proper system)?
 
I would like a 'proper system'. I will be using the system for music like Eric Clapton,the Eagles,some jazz, etc. I listened to a nice set of Boston speakers running off a Yamaha amp at Audio Vision and the system really impressed me. I just wondered what other shops I could go to, to have a look/listen around?

Try HFX Systems, they have a good selection of equipment and will demo the stuff for you.
 
You can get a SÍnotec for around R599 if that's your budget. I saw an ad for a Classe/Marantz and I think B&W speakers for R599,000 so I second the question "what's your budget ?"

I'm sorry but Sony is not the way to go if one is looking for exceptional sound quality.
Any entry level Onkyo/Yamaha/Denon/Boston etc. system would kill any Sony setup on sound reproduction. It really depends on how finicky one is really.

Sigma as others have said it really boils down to your budget and what functionality you require from the system (decoding capabilities, sound quality, inputs/outputs etc.)

I was looking for a decent Home Theatre setup (AV receiver and speakers) for quite a while but I couldn't justify the R10K+ price tag of even a budget setup so someone on these forums suggested the Onkyo HT-S5405 (http://www.eu.onkyo.com/en/products/ht-s5405-43101.html) which can be had for around R6K. I ended up buying one and honestly I couldn't be happier. Best value for money AV receiver and speaker combo out there. Receiver decodes just about everything, has 4 HDMI inputs, 2 optical and many others and considering it's Onkyo the sound quality is also right up there.

budget?
high end is not always your answer-- not everyone are music "purists".. if we were, we'd be talking about the STEREO setups, and not home theatre!

so with that said.. how much you want to spend man?
how big your room? shape+size?
what do you listen to besides music? what type of music too? movies? you like a cinematic aural and visual fest or rather passively watching movies?
 
You don't need to be a music "purist" to know that the sony system sounds crap... I've never heard such crap sub woofers... a R2000 HTIB has better sounding bass.
 
... and people mocked me for spending more than average on sound because everything sounds the same to them ;)

Seems more and more people are realising that even entry 'specialist' brands do have merits.

Saying everything sounds the same is obviously ridiculous. You do get to a point though where you have to spend double on equipment to get a 5% performance increase. Whether that's worth it to you or not is subjective. The thing with higher-end audio is that you have to pay double for 1% increase, so it doesn't really make sense to go spend absolutely silly money like some people do.
