I think B&O would exceed the budget by far and they don't really specialize in Home Theatre but rather High Fidelity Audio.

Grab yourself a little AV switcher box as well. Makes changing around a pleasure. You get little ones with 4 AV inputs (and 1 AV output) and then bigger after that. Oh so nice.

at the moments its about a 4x5 m room, but its not ideal, huge windows on two of the 4 walls , so I either need to build those windows up or get some nice curtains. Any suggestions?

As for laser Tv , here are two links to some videos. From what i gather , it should be available christmas 2007, and will cost half the price to make than current technology.

If you don't want the neighbours to call the cops and space is a bit limited consider compact speaker packages Such as these:

JBL SCS 260.6 - 6.1 Simply Cinema Loudspeaker System ( R4,625.00)
Quad L-ite 5.1 Speaker System (R9,650.00)

If you want to go bigger as in floorstanding sets maybe these:

Tannoy Fusion Speaker Package ( R3,420.00) (budget)
JBL E-60P Northridge E Series System ( R10,950.00) (mid-price)

My personal preference regarding speakers are B&W, Mission, Infinity and those polk audio are also good. Paradigm make great speakers if you can find them. Had a pair JBL's in my car and they were really good so the home theatre set-up can't be that bad.

Did you mention your total budget for the whole set-up???

Receivers , I would go for Yamaha / Onkyo / Marantz / Denon.
Also check out the Pioneer VSX-AX2AV-S AV Receiver (R9195), I think they make good receivers these days.

On the visual side.
Read a couple of reviews and according them the best lcd t.v's are the Philips Ambi-vue or something and the Sony Bravia's.

If you really wanna save a bit of money check your needs and desires and if your room is too small for floorstanders you could save a lot of money by going the compact speaker route and still have good sound.

Ideally you would want your walls to be carpeted or laid out with corkor some other soft absorbant material, but I suppose the room will be used for other purposes as well.

Best thing would be get thick curtaining in there to absorb as much of the reflected sound as possible. Carpet on the floor and sound absorbant ceiling (fibre board)
 
Tamagotchi: yip, my allround budget for everything is around R30 000.

Thanks for all the suggestions , I will go have a look at them and see if i can find a demonstration somewhere. At this moment my heart set on the Onkyo reciever and polk speaker that i posted earlier in the thread. for R15000 i think thats a good compromise, unless you can suggest something better.

I also want to go for floor standing speaker as it will be a more long term buy and i might be moving soon. Then i can have a nice padded and all room just for home theatre.

As for the screen it is now between the Sony Bravia (all though expensive), Panasonic Viera , sony sxrd rp tv( i have to see a demo of it, i want to see if the door effect is very frustrating)

what is the minimum size the room should be ?
 
Still a good choice on the speakers and receiver.

My lounge isn't even 5x4 (3x5- looks like a train coach). I would like to have a 37"-42" for a room 5x4, that would suffice for me.

If you want to expand later, the floorstanders are a good choice.
Just remember that they've got to be a certain distance (?) from the back wall to obtain good uncluttered sound, also use floor spikes if you've got carpet.

Don't forget the cabling as well , believe me it could end up expensive if you want top notch cables and interconnects.

Who is making it? I think that there is more chance that I'll fall pregnant (I'm male) than there will be a commercialized product within this year at any price. How can it be cheaper than the current DLP systems? I think that most of this info is just hype. If I was you I'd buy now... else you'll be waiting forever (For SED, LASER, OLED or holographic projection :))

The SXRD projectors don't have screendoor effect at all. Don't confuse Sony's 3LCD BRAVIA projectors (quite cheap, 720p native resolution, uses transmissive LCD panels, contrast ratio is around the same as LCD screens -1300:1, refresh rate is around 8ms) and the SXRD BRAVIA projectors (more expensive- 50" is around R29K, uses reflective liquid crystal on silicon panels -LCoS, 1080p native resolution, refresh rate 2.5ms, much finer screen pitch, contrast ratio 10,000:1)

Thanks for those comparisons, the sxrd is on top of my list! now just need to find one that I can have a demo on. Sony bravia`s look awesome but is to expensive inch wise , 50" sxrd for R29 000 sounds like a much better idea to me, and as I said i might be able to get one for a bit cheaper. If I can't, the only plasma that has impressed me so far is the lg 42pc1r ". Oh and the warfedale lcd at hi fi corp. :)
