Hi,

I have a Netgear DG834GT router and a static ip address.

I have a machine that is free and can act as a webserver, but am not sure how to set up the router to direct the web traffic to the webserver.

Any ideas/pointers will be helpful.

Thanks

mitli2008, In the router config, go "Firewall Rules." Under "Inbound Services" click on "Add." In the "Services" dropdown box, select "HTTP". In "Send to LAN server" type your server's IP address and hit "Apply."

That's pretty much it.

Hi Mitli

I have the same router. Log into the router -> go to WAN setup -> enable the tick box Default DMZ Server and add your servers IP.

Please note that if you try to access your webserver from a PC that's on the same network, you'll only get tthe router log on box. You'll have to ask your neighbour or someone on a different internet connection to test it for you.

This is one disadvantage with the DG834GT

Good luck!

You can never connect to if from behind your own router, if you can find one get a loop back proxy so u can test your self.

Which is why I suggested the port forward rather than the DMZ.

Yes yes, the DMZ is the safer option and correct way to do it, but for a "home server" the difference is largely academic. I can tell you from experience hackers aren't interested your pictures of the family and your mp3 collection. They want your server's bandwidth.

I had a DG834G before the GT and I could connect to my own server just fine with the DG834G
