hi all . i need smart people to help me cause i am failing hard

im trying to use a Huawei HG65 router as a wifi range extender.
im trying to pair it up to Rains5g router to boost that signal around the house

i do not want to connect the 2 routers via cable at all ...the sole purpose must be to take my main routers wifi and extend or repeat it

can anyone help talk me through the steps .i looked at different videos etc online but im still failing

something about disabling DHCP that i did.
changing SSID to match the main router i did
i even just pushed the 2 WPS buttons on the 2 routers, they connect but the internet isnt shared.

please help this utter noob

Give up and use cable. WiFi mesh is the only way to reliably connect your WiFi points and it’s very much brand and model dependent. That and Huawei are notoriously poor when it comes to anything outside the box.

That said, give us the router model no’s and let’s see…

check if this helps:

  • navigate to Settings > Wireless Settings.
  • Look for a WDS (Wireless Distribution System) or Repeater Mode option.

    If available:
    • Enable Repeater Mode.
    • Select your main router’s Wi-Fi network from the list of available networks.
    • Enter the password for the main Wi-Fi network.
    • Ensure the security settings match those of your main router.

There are a few other things to do but first check if the router has that function

thanks guys but i did come right.
after doing a factory reset the username/password for the router settings can be found online.
then i found the original Huawei firmware and not the Vodafone one that is standard here,
there is a repeater option on the OG firmware.

i now have it running.

What is your speeds like?

Is there any specific reason you did not or cannot run cables?

im on Rains 30mbs 5g but i average around 36mbs on the main router
if im accessing the Huawei router that i made into a repeater i get 18mbs there.. some loss but not major.

im renting, asked the owner if i could drill through walls and ceiling to run network cables...he said no

If he was clever he would get on board and install it himself and share the bill.
