If i take out the 1x telkom ADSL special do I have to sign up for a ISP account or does the account get thrown in with the special, really confused, telkom arent very clear when advertising and when i phoned the "helpdesk", im sure I could have got a better explaination out of an arabian camel with herpes, then the kid I spoke to... nice

dude - your guess is better than mine - what's in the BUNDLE ? A bunch of stuff designed to tie you up for a long period of time. Personally, I advise against signing a one-sided contract with anybody for anything. Remember, cancelling that contract is going to be near to impossible.

OK well i found this on there site... very fine print, you get a line and a modem by the looks of things...

So I apply for a line, and then I need to get a ISP... so who is the best I see Mweb which is my current analogue/satelite ISP, but they are expensive for ADSL.

Any suggestions

Depends on what you want to use ADSL for.
A - You must decide on the cap that you think you'll be comfortable with. The only uncapped ones are UUNET (WebAfrica.co.za) and excess currently.
B - teklom is ruling on the throughput side, so an ISP that uses teklom, like AllYouCanEat.co.za, or excesss.co.za or teklom themselves provide good throughput, but UUNET could provide you with different landing points than teklom's.
C - Then you must factor in the contract length that these ISP's cater for. It may be a good idea to try 1 for one month, then switch, then try another, then ...

Choices Choices, and in a couple of months, there'll be even more.

You get the ADSL line, then you need an ISP. Telkom offers services as an ISP at R250 per month. Add that onto your R440 = R670 on top of your existing phone rental. (for DSL 384), R580 for DSL 192

There are numerous ISP's out there - to be honest, I don't know which one is best :-

Look down the left hand side.

Whatever you do don't sign a 12 or 24 month contract, rather buy your own DSL modem (for as little as R400) and go on a month by month payment basis.

Before you do anything, however, make sure ADSL is available where you live - it's a 50/50 chance in urban areas, if not less. It will also take at least 3 weeks to get your line installed.

Finally, be prepared for a whopper of a first bill as they charge you for installation - R360 if I remember correctly.

3 weeks for them to realise they must install a line at your premisis and then 2 weeks for them to arrive. The road from Telkom headquaters to our homes is as bad as the broadband line between the same place.

Well, for me it was:
1 week to get them to come and test the line and check if port is available
1 week to get check if I'm feasable client
1 week to tel me that someone will phone for a appointment
2 weeks until the appointment.
We will see on Tue if they do pitch up!

do not sign a contract betters deal on the way but no one will beat ayce's offer which some clever ppl signed.

do not buy a telkom modem tis expensive ask for the line and thats all
then go www.hellkom.co.za and find an isp call your local computer shop NOT INCREDIBLE CONNECTION and get a modem for like 600 bucks

If they install on Tue. it would be great. Then I would finally be connected as well.

PS. I got the Planet ADE-3100 Ethernet ADSL Router/Bridge Modem (for R650). I've used it for everything except ADSL and it's great. The builtin DHCP server is the best!

My soon to be ISP, Adept 2Gig ADSL, works just like the 3Gig accounts in that you are not completely cut of after the Cap. You surf local normally and of course you almost don't surf Inter. at all.
