Homeopathy 'merely a placebo'

there are natural medicine that does work. however the market is obviously flooded with bull***** too, but one can say the same about some pills which treats the symptoms rather than the cause like painkillers...

and you can overdose on natural medicine. You'd be surprised how many simpletons think because it's natural it's completely safe :o

i would hardly call 1x ginger, or mint tee during the day or eating cabbage say twice a week overdose ;). as with anything you can overdose. even just taking in proteins you will have too much proteins.

@alan - let's distinguish between herbal and homeopathic
the term 'natural medicine' ultimately also applies to western medicine which derives its ingredients from nature as well.
it's plausible that herbal remedies may provide some relief from some symptoms, e.g. A Vogel's probiotics, or perhaps an arnica gel.
however, homeopathy is a different matter.
you most certainly can't overdose on a cup of water and sugar pills, as james randi has proven many times.

Something I have a problem with is the unfettered use of herbal remedies. Because such remedies are classified as "herbal", in many countries they don't have to comply with any legislation that governs medicines. So you can have herbal remedies where the dosage, effects, etc. can vary wildly, and even in some cases can be dangerous, but are on the open market because of a legal loophole.

If you take the pill or whatever to a chemist and ask them to tell you what is in it, then take that info and as a biologist type to tell how the chemical affect your body, and if the answers show a positive benefit to your health then that is medicine in my book. When any alternative treatment can do that, then I will buy into it.

i say bring it on; trails tests and so on would be great imho. it would do away with the mud in the water the system currently suffers from.

Not needed, because the basis premise of homoeopathy is rubbish, like cures like. No reason chemically that this should work. and the operative is chemically, in formulae worked out and predicting results that they get.

sorry your quote should be omitted. not talking about homeopathion wtf. we all know Gift Eish is not going to lengthen your penis by 10cm with his herbs...

Herbals have the same problems, No definition of the active ingredient, because we must all bow to ancient primitive bush wisdom. And there is the fact that most of the plants we know of these days have had their chemical make up noted, and running this against predictive tables we can make suggestions of what types of plants to look at. Something that is being doing across the world in the med labs of Big Pharma. Buying your yam roots from the vendor outside the railway station is not medicine, that is voodoo witchcraft.

ow noes. going to quote jesus dawkins on this ? :D

...this some bad **** dude. i'll take a good bet you know jack**** about magick ;)

Yams are high in vitamin C, dietary fiber, vitamin B6, potassium, and manganese; while being low in saturated fat and sodium. Vitamin C, dietary fiber and vitamin B6 may all promote good health

Careful with the total and utter dogmatic scientist stance there ;)
After all does eucalyptus not help decongest a blocked nose?
Oranges and lemons have loads of vit C and do help the immune system deal with a cold...

Personally I'd sooner down a glass of freshly squeezed OJ than a fistful of Vit C tabs.

Just sayin'.

I whole heartedly support Homeopathy as I have seen with me how it worked where conventional medicines fail miserably. One simple example from many that I have personally experienced: I had a wart on my toe that conventional doctors had cut, froze, lazered 12 times till there was no nail left.......but it always grew back. Went to the Homeopath for the first time and he had some machine that tested for lacking minerals in the body. He gave me 20 pills and told me to take 5 a day......3 days later my wart had broken apart and disappeared....never to return again.

Any idea what was in those pills? It would be interesting to know... not everything prescribed by a homeopath is necessarily tincture of air and water - he may well have used a herbal remedy that actually has *gasp* an active ingredient. ;)
