If this is the case then it seems to be self-defence to me.

I agree. House property and cars should be defendable by lethal force no matter if the person is threatening your life or not. These days you never know with house robberies anyway, so the safe option is to shoot and get it done if you can...
 
One down, another few million to go.
Criminals are being born into the population faster than they are being killed off.

But the way things are they're not so you really need to COYA if you're going to shoot and kill someone. Otherwise you'll be looking at a prison term - a virtual death sentence in itself.
