Okay i had an opportunity to drive this car as a courtesy as my car was in for repairs. I took it on a road trip this weekend from CT to NW (Mafikeng) and back about 3000km in total... Amongst things i like compared to its groups (320i, A4 1.8T) is fuel consumption is great, the comfort and the flexibility on seats and how you can maneuver them with one knob (BM/Audi can learn from this). The power is not bad either (115kw/200N) but i think Audi and BMW is better though. Looks? Well, it does have an executive look but i didn't think it caught enough attention to my friends. Somehow Honda is stigmatized maybe? But in all, i wouldn't mind keeping this car for another month. One of the cons is its auto 5 gear box but didn't hear too much mourn on high revs and it still save petrol more. Cars on its group are go to 6th gear, Audi goes up to 8th (:erm:). Any one driven it?

I think the Accord is a really nice vehicle and would have seriously considered purchasing one but the price put me off so I bought the Cerato 2.0 SX instead.
Quality wise I feel the Accord is up there with BMW, Volvo and Audi.

interesting specs for Cerato, Kia is doing well it seems
 
Price is the Accord biggest fall down. Overpriced. Hence the reason why you don't see to many of them on the road.

I also really like them, but at that price there are more attractive options.
 
VERY nice car but priced too close to the German 3. The diesel is about R400k :wtf:

I reckon as a 2nd hand vehicle its a good buy. Quite a few for sale with +- 40 000km, 2009 2.0 models going for R175k - R180k and thats with the auto. Car has decent specs and I haven't spotted any complaints about them.

The 2.3 is nice though, and not just because I drive one. Lol
 
I didn't include the Mazda 6 2.0 because it's engine is less powerful than the Mazda 3 2.0 Individual which puts out 110kW.
Anyway that data was from another post that I made when someone mentioned that they thought the Cerato 2.0 was underpowered.
I just included it here as comparison because the OP thought that BMW 2.0 engines are more powerful than the Accord's.

I'm actually quite impressed with the modern engines from most manufacturer's.
Not so long ago 100kW from a normally aspirated 2L engine was rare and now they're in the 110kW+ range and they consume less fuel than the engines from 10 to 20 years ago.
I guess the major contributors are continuously variable valve timing (in it's various forms and names) and optimised fuel injection systems.

I have to agree. The age of fuel injection did change a lot in terms of performance
 
I took the 2.0 executive for a test drive. It was a second hand one with about 20000km on the clock going for about R219 000. Brilliant car. Its an automatic with paddle shifts, bluetooth etc etc. These cars are very expensive brand new, but once they're second hand its a good buy if the mileage is low. However its Honda, so I suspect that parts are going to be expensive and they're not like BMW and Audi where they offer a maintenence plan, you have to buy that extra if you want it. Thats the only draw back I can find with it.

The 1.8l DOHC used in the old honda ballades built by mercedes was a beaut of a engine. Think it was 103kW back in the day with torque to boot.
