Was in B/W on Friday and noticed they had a couple of Honda generators,on closer inspection they seemed to be Honda engines coupled up to a generator drive. The whole unit was installed in an open cage nowheels or handles that I could see, imagine you would have to fit wheels and handles as a DIY thing
They seemed quite reasonably priced 10000 for the smaller unit outputting 6 kv. What I was wondering about was the generator assembly bolted to the engine it was called a synchro and made in Italy the Honda engine was a GX390
Would this make a suitable standby generator ?. I found some favourable reviews on the GX 390 engine but nothing when used with a separate generator assembly. does anyone know this model would it be worth buying
Thanks for any advice

10k for a so-called 6kW genny is grossly overpriced.
Then again, I find BW to be generally overpriced.

Also, when considering a generator, check if the power rating is actually Constant or Surge.
Manufacturers always provide the most optimistic rating, sometimes as much as 25% over the Constant rating.
If no figures are available, then subtract at least 15% from the stated rating for a more accurate indication of the true rating.

Thanks for the advice
Can't remember the actual output figures might have been 6 kW max possibly 5.6 surge
Have found Builders expensive for some things and fairly reasonable for others . I was thinking as it was Honda engine that might have pushed the price up ?
Thanks

My Motto inclusive...
Thanks again
So would prefer to get a Honda if possible. Don't think i will find one from Builders at the 1K for 1Kw
Anyone tell me where I can pick up a 6kw Honda for 6000 ?
Thanks
Ian

Thanks
Have sent an email asking them for quotes on a couple of Honda's. Will be interesting to see the pricing on these models.
Thanks again

Consider an invertor generator - power from generator is rectified to dc and smoothed with capacitors, then send through invertor to output a constant 50 hz. Generator do not have to run at +- 4000 rpm just to keep output frequency at 50 hz, it can almost idle if load is low, saving on fuel cost. Problem is, more expensive than traditional generators.
