So it's time to get another car for my mom and one that's been on my radar since the first model landed in SA is the Honda Jazz. I am not in the price range for a brand new one and so I've been looking around on the second hand market.

Right now I have my eye on a few from 2010/2011 but I would actually prefer to get an auto 'box. That said, the 1.4 and 1.3 models are all CVT from what I can tell and although only having owned one, we haven't had too great an experience with them. The previous one was an Audi A4 2.0 multitronic in which the "gearbox" was replaced at around 85000km.

Does anyone here have any experience with or know about the reliability of the CVT "gearboxes" in the Honda Jazz and if so, would you please help shed some light on what to look out for?

The 1.5 Jazz uses a conventional auto 'box so I am not too fussed with reliability there, but the additional fuel that they use in town is enough to make me rather head for the manual 'box if I choose the 1.5.

Thanks in advance.
