Honda Mechanic Jhb/Pta

Hi,

Need CVs and gearbox replacement on a Honda Civic 2009 5 door, 260,000km. Have only serviced at OEM. However, Honda SA (Mekor) quoted me three kidneys.

I'm looking for someone tried and tested around Jhb/Pta (hopefully not far off the M1, N1, Lynwood, or a Gautrain station).

Referrals? I've seen JDM recommended on the forum elsewhere.

What is wrong with the gearbox?
Hondas are very reliable but if something goes wrong they are going to kill you on parts, Almost like they are making upo for all the trouble free motoring you enjoyed over the years.A friend is in the same predicament with a Jazz, he was quoted more than R4k for CV joints.

Yeah, it's been pretty trouble free. And I abuse the car quite severely.

Oi. I was told this at the last service. Can't remember now, something about the master disk (am I remembering correctly). But it's slipping in first if trying to take off on an incline.

like I said, not 100% sure, if they similar to korean parts for korean vehicles.
if they are, let others know, people seem happy on google with them.

You really need to get the facts straight, otherwise you are going to be scammed wherever you decide to take your car to, know exactly what is wrong and what needs to be fixed, did Honda provide you with the complete quotation of the R14k job? What you've just described sounds like a clutch not a gearbox issue.

Right now only the CVs are time critical. I was told I have some life left (maybe clutch), so not too concerned until next service. Will definitely get the info verbatim from Honda next round.

Get new or reconditioned CV's from any place that specialise in them, have it fitted there. Check on Honda UK forums for compatible clutch kits and have it fitted at a Bosch service centre or similar.

I really think you are mistaken or whoever is advising you at the dealer is not being honest, if the clutch is already slipping you have a problem that is much more urgent than CV joints. One of these days the car is just going to rev up and go nowhere.

Yeah. Was hoping to get a 2nd opinion on the requested mechanic referral. And yes I will have to get the info from Honda regarding what the problem is. Hopefully getting it all sorted at once and probably using the same mechanic form routine service going forward.

Will call Honda and see if they can pull up the info from the last service
