hello

ive been interested in purchasing one of two bikes, xr 125 or estorm from honda.

Whats the pro's and cons between these two vehicles, here is the list i as novice have defined so far

xr125
PRO:
of/on road capability
more power than estorm
CON:
more expensive
fuel consumption a bit higher but still good

how far can a 80-85 kg fellow ride on such a bike without fear of burning out the engine, how fast can u drive it for long distances while protecting the engine

Those engines are indestructible ;) I had an e storm, without oil, working fine!! You can ride flat out for a few hours no problem.

*sorry for misdirecting your thread a bit :)*

heard some of the ppl's at the office talking about these ( and seems to be a viable option to avoid these toll-gates...)

what is the price range and expected economy on these cycles?

The Hondas are really tough, those little four stroke motors go on and on and on...

The e-Storm was launched at R10k according to Honda's website. The XR is around R14k. These sniff fuel. You can expect at least 25 - 30 km/l or more, i.e. in the 3.x and below l/100km territory

can any of these bikes safely be driven for long distances?
Can the estorm handle some offroad, or would that rattle the bike to bits?
If one takes the xr125 i guess it would get somewhat hotter when driving it for a longer distance.

Any ideas on this?

Ive got the e-storm.going to hit 10000km tom.have spoken to guys with 20000km+ and they havent had 1 problem.i also havent had 1 problem!runs like a champ.i get 35-38km/l running at 70-80km/h most of the time ( i weigh 70km).awesome value at R10000 (mine was R13000 with helmet and gloves).just a heads up.honda charges like R1000-R1500 to roadworthy it for you.if you can it shouldnt be too difficult to hire a trailer and do it yourself if you know how to.longest ive ridden was like 60km nonstop at 90km/h.it can do that the whole day, because its right on peak power and within the rev-range.honda's manual does however advise another sparkplug if youre going to do it regularly.

Xr125 has an overhead valve engine (with a pushrod),basically from the old cg125 and e-storm has an overhead cam engine ,from the old cb125. xr125 has slightly more power (12hp vs 10hp) but iirc service intervals are recommended at 2500km as apposed to the e-storms 3000km.services are cheap and easy to do yourself.

if you want to go highway speeds (i.e. 100-140) id recommend a cbx250 twister. can get clean 2nd hand ones with only a few thousand km for r15000-r20000 if you shop around or the new yamaha ybr250.with that, you can also check the yamaha ybr125.also bullet proof.

an english couple rode 2-up on a 30year old honda cg125 from england to cape town.last i heard the bike was at honda cape town.will post a link tom as im on my phone.these tiny bikes are bullet proof if the basic maintenance is followed.

excellent post thanks!

With motorobikes you get what you pay for but Honda decided to break the rules. I'm so sorry I never got the e-Storm when I bought my bike, now mine is lying broken in the garage after 15000km, going to cost me nearly the price of an e-Storm to fix.

The 250's are awesome and if you afford it, then go that route. My older brother commutes to work on his (100km round trip) and often hits the road on weekends with his camping gear - never had a problem.

Do you think the e-storm can last if it has to take on 2 km of zink dirt roads each day?
