Honor's plans for SA

Former Huawei sub-brand Honor is relaunching as a fully-independent company in South Africa and plans to stake its claim on the local smartphone market.
 
Google mobile services?

Not at the current prices they charge.

They can't go asking 25% more that what Xiaomi is selling their competing models for.

In China and India they don't cost 25% more, they cost the same.

Honor was a subbrand of Hauwei, Xiaomi is a competitor. Honor was more of upmarket device. So the price made sense. Lets see how they brand changes or stays the same?
 
How long until the Americans catch on that this is Huawei re-branded and then ban them as well?

I miss Huawei myself, still using the P30 with no issues. I am checking how this situation with Honor develops, if they stick around without the Americans destroying them, then I am going all in on them.

Huawei (Honor) quality just can't be beaten... and then there's the camera.

If you don't like getting updates on your phone, buy a honor. I probably got 3 updates in 3 years. Won't buy a honor again just for that reason.

Was it though? As far as I'm aware, Honor was Huawei's more budget range. An equivalent Honor phone was always slightly cheaper than the Huawei counterpart.

Both Huawei and Honor phones were always way overpriced in SA in contrast to Xiaomi phones, which are still slightly inflated here, but far less so than most other brands.

Yeah, new android versions and security patches. Normal maintenance of the OS is expected from manufacturers, not necessarily features.

Xiaomi has traditionally two brands themselves.

"Mi" branded phones which are more fashion orientated, are the Honor equivalents.

"Redmi" branded phones are the more cost effective ones.

Honor isn't involved in network integration so the USA is turning a blind eye
