Strange though, as this Greek never got support from a single movement against apartheid, nor was he released from Prison by either De Klerk, Mandela or Mbheki. Weird that...

He was not really in prison. He was held at Sterkfontein Mental Hospital. But, yes, he was never seen as anything by anyone. They just placed him there and forgot about him.

Nor was his funeral attended by any struggle organisation or gov officials.

If he was such a big struggle hero the gov of the day would have had a field day with him and hanged him, but nah nothing was found except mental illness and a judge decided he could not stand trial. Gov of the day must have been devastated.

There is a deeper story to old Tsafendas - among them, his struggle with his mixed race heritage, that Apartheid policies amplified.

accurate...not really, case in point...Simon Van Der Stel, dark skinned governor + slave wife.... there was a concerted effort post 1910 to eviscerate the Cape Colony's multicultural history. No mention anywhere of free slaves contribution to the development of the Cape Colony economy. The wine estates they bought and build up.

No deeper story, he wanted to Marry a coloured girl, applied to be classified coloured to be with her. It was declined. He was a lifelong drifter and sounds like he didn't know what to do with his life. Ended up killing Verwoerd and got free housing for the rest of his life.

His mother was of mixed heritage therefore, he was "coloured" as well.

Such a simplification, just a footnote, just how the Nats wanted him to be ...;.a disregarded footnote of history ...no deeper investigation/understanding that could possibly blame Apartheid policies as being a driver in its architect's assassination. ...but then again the prevailing attitude to race should be taken into account.

I'm sure we have all read his bio. He was no Freedom fighter, didn't stand up against Apartheid or anything. He was a moron drifter, got sad and when he had an opportunity killed Verwoerd for some reason (Probably publicity).

That is certain and at no point did I claim otherwise. I just wanted to bring to the fore his heritage. The fact that he was justified in a way (based on the laws of the days...)
 
By all accounts the tapeworm story was a fabrication.

Perhaps read the book before jumping to the same conclusions the Nats plugged.

He was well traveled. Being forced to learn a langue in dialogue is pretty simple if your survival depends on it. I can't be arsed though. Just sounds like another "eath is flat" conspiracy. It's pretty stupid :D
