Now i'm not saying that we should sterilize all people with this gene, it could be something given by mother nature for some reason, but it may also be a bad mutation.

But seriously, we have the technology to knock out the gene (RNAi or siRNA) and replace it (viral vector) with a functional one. The problem is that genes work within a system and that gene might function perfectly in its own system, and by replacing it with a "functional" gene (the type you find in supposedly normal people) you might crash the system.

Sterilizing people for whatever reason is a bad idea. Eugenics all over again. Are you a eugenicist? Sterilizing people also removes variability from the gene pool. Who knows, maybe that "defective" gene working together with other "seemingly dysfunctional" genes might yield a person with the potential to become a genius that can contribute a lot to society.

We should rather concentrate on education and instilling good values at an early age. Humans are not mindless drones at the mercy of their genetic make-up, we have choice and free-will.

It's just the results of a study, so I would be very reluctant to take any action against those who possess this so-called offending gene.

If there is truth to it then it is clearly open to abuse. I'm sure a defense attorney could use it as a mitigating factor to diminish responsibility for their clients actions. Insurance companies would also be keen to test for it when deciding to give that person automobile insurance, amongst other things.

But it's most likely a lot of hot air and will be debunked in time.

Nope that will set a dangerous precedent.

What will we then sterilize? Stupid people, ugly people, maybe people who would tend to get fat?

Eugenics does NOT equal Sterilize.

We don't have to sterilize anyone!

there are other methods, namely: In-vitro selection population legislation, abortion policies, designer babies ,cloning...

We are living in 2008, people! almost all of these moral methods weren't present in the past, now they are, and now we look at eugenics as if it were completely something else.

Im not saying gene-manipulaton/"stearing" doesn't have benifits, I am just saying that I would prefer (in somethings atleast) the "natural" version.

Designer babies, In vitro, cloining(besides for maybe a first few, but those will not enter life anyway)

gives you 100% NATURAL human beings!

only that they have better genes.
