Horizontal lines on LCD TV

I acquired a lightly-used 37" Samsung LCD TV.

It has 2 horizontal 'stripes'on the screen - fairly wide, greyish, extending from the left edge almost to the right edge, more a shadow than anything else.

I've tried different sources, different signal cables, made sure the power and signal cables are as far apart from each other as is possible, and gone through every setting that I can find. The stripes persist.

Seems likely this is a hardware issue - can anyone here advise what it might be, and the possible solution?

black lines would indicate physical damage to the lcd panel.. but greyish is probably related to the input pcb controller board or the video rendering pcb.. check if your tv has an option to do a picture test..

do the lines persists when you pull up the tv menu as well or is the menu perfectly clear..?

No test option that I can find. The menu is semi-transparent/translucent and the lines are visible through the menu.

that at least rules out the input controller board as an issue.. this leaves the lcd panel and the video rendering board or chip..

Do you think its worth repairing (presumably not if it should be the LCD panel) or should I unacquire it? And who can I get to check it - in the Cape Town/Somerset West area?

91 and 92 voortrekker road are the only two places i am aware of.. western cape tv and appliance repairs have been there for years now.. if you acquired it for free it is at the very least worth getting a quote on getting it replaced.. based on the quote you can then decide if it is still worth it..
