Hi chaps,

I am having serious problems with my latency to local gaming servers, it fluctuates like mad, it ranges from 35 to 2500 every 30 seconds or so (i have 192k ADSL). I am using a SAIX telkom isp account so this should be playing fine.

As you can imagine this is totally unplayable, this has been happening since late last week. Any suggestions???

I have tried disabling firewalls, scanned for spyware, scanned for viruses, im all out of options.

thanx in advance for any ideas.

What you can also try to troubleshoot:

1. hardware - try a full hardware reset of router to factory defaults (this fixed for me, I think, because I had changed routers). Or try someone else's router if you can find one. If you share the line with a phone, try without it.
3. On all SAIX game servers? Try more than 1. On empty servers? On non-SAIX gaming servers in SA?

Who's your ISP, and where are you trying to play ?
Playing Local SGS : I recon MWeb or some IS related provider is your ISP : solution - get a SAIX based ISP.
Playing International : Oh .. sorry ... get ISDN or Dialup for better latency.

I also have that same problem and I got new adsl routers
still the same

ish

although i have 512k adsl

say is there a 1024 adsl in SA all ready?

Buddy of mine last nite mailed me a screenshot of his pings to eve-online.

It usually sits at bout 300-500ms. Last nite it was spiking to bout 4s.

I have to say this weekend and especially friday was horrendous for gaming. Friday nite. try as i might i keep on getting to much lag.
Saturday. moderate lag. playable though
sunday nite. tried a while to play but also was experiencing insane lag.

He says in his first post that he's using a SAIX-based ISP ;)

Have you done the usual AV and spyware/trojan scanning?

@Dom ... me runs into corner and hides ... admits to temporary blindness.
Erm ... check your line for noise. I had an issue that when the neighbour's phone was in use, I had bad lag. Seems a lightning strike on the tekom pole managed to almost weld mine and their cables together just enough to cause some degradation.
I.e. When there is a lot of local lag, pick up the phone and listern to it. It must be crackle and all noise free.
