Websites taking ages to load, shocking latency issues (700ms to google.com with 40% packet loss). What's going on with iBurst? It's been like this for the last couple of days now.

They should've made plans a long time ago to increase their speeds.

Have you looked at your signal strength and your MTU setting?

100% Signal strength and the MTU is as it should be. Large files download at maximum speed but browsing is a joke. Can't understand the logic behind that.

If downloading speeds are fine, but browsing is crap then maybe its a DNS issue?

Even with 100% signal strength, you'll suffer latency and browsing if the error rate is high. 40% packet loss? Means you have 40% error rate, which is BAD! Anything above 5% is terrible in my opinion. There might be walls, other devices or the position that is causing interference on your signal. Try moving the device, even a 80% signal strength with <5% error rate is better than get 100% signal with >5% error rate.

its called going under.

Hopefully not, there are no other real wireless techs out there. 3G is a terrible because of the load on those networks and priority to phone calls. iBurst is cheaper and in most cases the latency and speed is better than 3G.

@eltherza

My modem is in the exact same spot that it's always been for the last year or so. I doubt that it's a signal or interference issue on my side. This is simply iBurst being the awesome company that they are. Rooigev@@r, are you aware of any issues on the PTA area?

There was a comment that iBurst was having issues with the fibre provider (or something like that). It might be that, but I don't see why I'm not affected if that is the case (unless it's just the PTA area that is affected)

Well it seems you might have been right eltherza. My apologies. :o

Moved the modem to another room and voila, full speed once more. How does this work in a logical sense though? 100% signal strength should indicate a good connection to the base station, not so?

There is a pretty widely known SAIX problem at the moment that iBurst has no control over... Granted, iBurst should be a little more on the ball about explaining this, but then some of you whingers should at least try a little looking around before having your wet nappy vents...

Good to hear it's back to being fast again!

I think the device just measures how strong the electrical signal is, and not what is actually being read - nor the quality.

There was a program that one could use to measure quality of signal, etc. a while ago. I forgot the name though and not sure if it even still exists.

This program is called "iConnect". Measures cost and displays tower. Can record it all to graph and log.
Though it is not so stable...

There are 2 versions currently, beta 1 and beta 4. Beta 4 stopped working on my computer after changing a couple of settings.
Didn't tried beta 1 yet.
